The first of the "Super" Cruiser. 4 of these where ordered, however the apperance of the 12" Japanese Battlecruisers forced a change of plans. The last one was canceled and the ither two ships where delayed and eventually scrapped, most of their parts being used in their replacement, the Constitution class. Their guns where used in the Tuna class cruisers. Alliance would serve in the Chinese war and was sunk at the Naval Battle of Yantai. Against overwhelming odds she held her own, reportedly taking two enemy coastal battleships under with her. In honor Constitution's sister was named after her.

She started life out as a sister to Australia. However during 3rd Taiwan shells struck the bridge and steering. Out of control she steamed straight into the enemy's battleline and suffered badly in the process. Pounded at pointblank range she barely survived the battle heavily damaged. She was to be scrapped but then the Senate cancelled Constitution's two sisters and in a clver sufferfuge the NSN decided to "repair" Hawaii. A total rebuild basiclly slipped a new ship under the old one's name plate and bell.

Originaly 13 of this class where built, however they were heavily used during the Asian Wars and 9 failed to return. The remainder, most with battle damage where rebuilt to "Black Cat" status. The rebuilt gave them electric "creeping" motors, experimental wakeless torpedoes, flashless gunpowder, flash suppresors, spark screen, paravanes, cut down hull, special low visibility paint, and other goodies. They form a special squadron tasked with non-existant missions, and are officialy listed as MIA.
