Beginning in 1927, the Imperial Roman Navy is embarking on a reclassification program to better define the expected role or design purpose of a ship. The classifications, with a brief description, are as follows.

Line of Battle Ship - Capital ships designed to fight capital ship opposition, which are armed and armored for such. This classification be modified by the following options in accordance with the design: Fast

Frigate - Capital ships designed to operate independently against non-capital opposition or support Line of Battle Ships against in capital ship combat. This classification can be modified by the following options in accordance with the design: Light, Heavy, Aviation

Cruiser - Ships designed to operate in roles which require an independently capable ship or in support of Capital ships against light opposition. This classification can be modified by the following options in accordance with the design: Escort, Large, Scout, Aviation, Mine

Destroyer - Ships designed to operate against light opposition while supporting heavier ships. These are not expected to be capable of long-term independent operation. This classification can be modified by the following options in accordance with the design: Light, Leader, Torpedo

Corvette - Ships designed to operate in protection of Capital Ships while in groups against light surface, airborne, or sub-surface threats. This classification can be modified by the following options in accordance with the design: Heavy, Mine

Sloop - Ships designed for protection of fixed-point locations and patrol of controlled waters. This classification can be modified by the following options in accordance with the design: Large, Aviation

Submarine - Ships designed with underwater operation capabilities, without regard to other roles.

Auxiliary - Ships designed to fill non-combat roles in support of combat ships. This classification can be further described in accordance with the intended role of the ship.

Seems fine, although "Torpedo Destroyer" sounds redundant to me.

Thats fair, but given most of my destroyers carry four fish tops, something shooting more would be a big enough deviation.

The frigate classification is an oddity to me.  What's being described can be a battlecruiser or a carrier, with a wide potential variation in sizes.

The Parthians are using that for 3000-5000 ton vessels, below cruiser weight.
The light/leader/torpedo designations for destroyers make sense to me.

Sloop, again I use as a tonnage class, the role defined is what I call 'coastal' or 'gunboat'.

So I go... roughly
Cruiser 5001-10,000
Frigate 3000-5000
Corvette 1401-2999  (what I'm calling large destroyers, hard to explain to Treasury why new ones were twice or more the size of old).
Destroyer 701-1400
Sloop 301-700
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Sloop 301-700

These classifications break down along intended use rather than ship size. In example, the difference between a Light Frigate and a Large Cruiser is more down to how the ships are intended to be used.
