For both Maelstrom and Ranger, I want to go back and add Enhanced Hydrophones as they are more effective than the War Tubas being removed. But that takes a basic refit in dock, and the docks are busy.

6) Replace FC, NF and radios.

Honestly I don't think many are playing 'where's waldo' scrutinizing my AA refits.
As a broad brush, deck spots-space- are a consideration.
I figure where a single 90 was, I can probably fit a 2G 90 if desired- it's primarily just a little extra width.  A twin 57 spot can fit a quad 37.  Twin 30s can probably be added on bolted/welded-on platforms in limited numbers, not that heavy but take up space as a limiter. All those I try mentally to envision how they'd fit.  To a certain extent if you look at all the WW1 'anti torpedo boat' 75mm guns, or the WW2 arrays, it seems you can stick light guns in lots of places.  In WW2, 20mm Oerlikons in flexible mountings were added all over, even as late as the Falklands conflict.  I view the 23mm GAST as falling in that category, and so I just put them high up and distributed without worrying about a mental image of just exactly where.

The War Tubas on the Maelstrom/Rangers are seen as a failed experiment, part of the post-Sino-Japanese effort to spot nighttime attackers further out. Enhanced hydrophone's ability to detect high speed screws at a distance is more effective, but as that requires dock time for installation (still basic refit), I will go back later for that on those ships.

As typical of my refits you'll see me paying to upgrade radios - that's a simple storyline matter.

My misc wt allocations for certain 'stock' items has changed over time
I used to do 25t for lots of things, now I do 1t per 1000 cost, for each 'unit' of fire suppression or pumps, or Air conditioning. Things like pumps aren't something you can basic refit though.
Night fighting I limit to 25t max = full suite, or =FC weight if lower, so my DDs don't have searchlight towers...but they have searchlights, large binocs, lighting, protocols, etc.

after looking at Hermes and Honsho and Ryujo a bit more,
I thought I'd look at "Seabird" again.
The 2nd version posted had a minimal belt and deck armor.

But these ships are not that fast, their engines don't take the full citadel length, and they don't have many guns. 
So, I tried a box around magazines and machinery is fitted, which allowed thicker armor...
and the last 2 AC to be budgeted for.

Probably built as a training carrier, with the possibility of being pressed into service to replace losses.
It would also make a worthwhile escort carrier design if I needed one later.

A single torpedo, bomb or cruiser shell may cripple it.

3rd try at the Gunboat "E"...now called Gunboat F "Hukar" which means Porcupine.
Basically, the Sibari class are lovely gunboats/powerful little cruisers, but expensive for rear area storyline security. I am tempted to continue them anyhow.

At first I thought I was going to have to wait until later to lay this down, as I need to develop the single- DP mounting for the 165mm gun- but a single gun DP mount takes 6 months. So ready for 1930.5.
But the ship is 1720 tons, it will take 11 months, and you can do a free BR for the 2nd part...in 1930.5.
So it can be designed and laid down with the 165L43 LA mount, and during construction upgraded to the 165L43 DP mount. Which would take up some Misc Wt. reserve. So the F has less reserve than the E.

Now...Are single 165mm DP mounts a good idea ?
Not really. The mounting will still be heavy and track slowly, while ROF isn't really where one would want. The historic 6" DP mountings that failed were twins and triples, so much heavier, but had higher ROFs. It will likely have some utility in barrage fire against HA or Torp attack.
BUT...all the historic navies liked the idea, so this is my nod to a bad idea.

So looking at my 1930 turn, I have been looking at times since laydown and there are a number of ships that need to be refurbished or scrapped, I apparently missed a couple classes.

I still can find room for that Training carrier (v3 above) since the Experimental carrier is nearing the end of life (1894 hull)
that is likely a need.

With 3 of the 'Flight Deck Cruisers' to cover the Armored Cruiser squadrons, I may stop those.

So I'm considering the "Kestrel" casement Aircraft carrier.
While it was 19m, not the 15m that got comments, I still upped the beam to 20, and given the text of Ryujo, it's likely 23+ in the hangers.

So I had a 33AC, 13750t version with a narrow 50mm belt and a 35mm deck.
I figured that was proof against QF weapons, and longer range cruiser deck pens.  Not great armor, but it's not meant to stand in line of battle.

BUT...the hanger size could take more aircraft.
So I've tinkered with the size and it's swelled to 14,500 and 44 aircraft - so 6% more tonnage for 1/3 more airgroup.
I moved to an armored box over magazines and machinery at 55mm, which should defeat all HE/SAP and all non-turreted deck penetrations.  Again, won't defeat cruiser guns under 15,000m, but not really meant to.

Parthian fleet cruise speed is currently about 14knts for 6-8000nm.
Vessels expected to operate in support of the fleet - movng around the main body- have a cruise speed of 16 knots.
This both allows destroyers to sprint and drift in an ASW role, and carriers to move off, launch into the wind, and then come about and catch up with the formation.

Armor
The deck heights place thecrown of the armor deck at a mere 1.0m above the

This is meant to defeat HE and SAP rounds from light guns, and preserve the carriers ability to manuever and fight.

The 38mm TDS only 2.1 m inside the hull, which is expected to be insufficient at stopping surface or submarine torpedoes, but should handle lighterweight aerial torpedoes. Even if the bulkhead leaks, it should decouple the shock wave and limit flooding.

BUT...all the historic navies liked the idea, so this is my nod to a bad idea.

In terms of raw capability, it's effective.  I feel you'd have difficulty fitting four big guns and a plane onto something about the length of a Castle-class corvette, though.

It's ironic, early one we had a discussion on how to judge if a design was valid, and the consensus was if it works in Springsharp, it's valid. I dissented, but bowed to the group.

The gunboat is well within our rules, and there are no Springsharp warnings other than the standard 'beam' one because I didn't 0 that out.

By that consensus the

SS clearly thinks there is plenty of space.

But since I was the one that dissented and thought practicality should matter, I should take a second look at the matter :

There are two vessel to look at as parallels

HNLMS Evertsen and USS Erie
- Hukar is shorter than both, but also slower than both, and length seems to be correlated to hull form and speed desired rather than weapons suite.

USS Erie was 100m, had 4 x 6" guns and a floatplane. So at that length, there'd be no issue.

Evertsen
was 98m long, had 4x 120L50 , 1x75L55, and 2 x TT3 21" - I presume on centerline since they had a 9.5m beam.  So a better model to use to answer 'what can you cram in'. 

There were some AA guns, but presumably they were elevated for arc and not eating up Centerline space.
The B and X mounts were superimposed, but that fits a
Critically, these ships did ship a floatplane for a while.

As the Floatplane does not appear to fit athwart-ship, as intended, but probably would have to sit on the CAT extending over X...historically doable, but cumbersome, and it's a bit superfluous to the design - other sources can provide spotting planes for gunfire support...
I will strike it and move those 25tons to Misc Wt or more DCs or somesuch.
Not worth a repost.

Edit : Looking at the ship, realized I had plenty of room in the citadel, and 25tons would be +30% ammunition,
so put 20 tons in ammo, and 5 misc, which had the happy effect of lowering Light Displacement 20 tons  to 1700.
