It's a type I've relegated to auto-building one a turn and just updating the design once in a while.

If I do something it'll probably be a combination asw and minesweeper.

The only thing I would look at is the AA suite.  It's the 1920s, one AA gun is getting pretty paltry, especially when the MGs are only a pair of rifle caliber guns.

There are no real aircraft carriers yet and no torpedo squadrons and dive bombers.
Byzantium will develop more consistent AA weapons in a few years.
Note that all Byzantine ships also have 47/50cal QF Vickers against MTBs and Aircraft.
7,7 MG are for close protection in harbors or very near coasts.

True, and Byzantium hasn't had a bunch of recent air combat to inspire a push to have more AA.  The Aztec push away from heavy AA towards rapid-firing light-medium AA has been a function of its apparent lack of utility.  Ultimately, this will come back to bite, I'll have to develop a new heavy AA weapon or do a bunch of refits in the 1930s or so when aircraft get much more serious.

When I was running the Mayan war, I gave the Mayans a pass on QF vs. AA mountings
since they were a quickly built and reviewed navy.

For players, if it is in a QF mounting, do not expect it to function adequately against aircraft.
To me, that indicates a low angle mounting, not necessarily meant for fast traverse and elevation.
Certainly no fuse setters, so all HE.
Buried under Snip's Research, Gun Research, there's a bit on updating mountings.
To me that means mountings type listed in the SS matters.
You can update that to a different type/year via that section.

I realize other folks running battles may look at that differently, but felt I should be clear.

For my part, I developed my 57mm AA as my 90mm AA really didn't fit on destroyers.
I'm placing it my ships, but I recognize it's too big to be fast, and too small to have a good lethal radius.
So it will get replaced with the next generation of weapons.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

As I have specified since the beginning of the game, I use the naval artillery of the United Kingdom, source Naval Weapons.
The 47/50 cal Vickers gun.

http://www.navweaps.com/Weapons/WNBR_3pounder_V_mk1.php

This one has an elevation angle of 80° and was also used during WW I as an AA gun.

I declared it in my SS as QF because aviation is currently very underdeveloped. I therefore consider it ,first, as an anti MTB gun.

In a few years, it will be replaced by the 40/39 cal.
