I need speed since I need to dictate where and when I fight. But armor? Ain't nobody got time for that!

There would certainly be a limited number of Roman or Mayan ships capable of both catching and killing her, so yeah.

Thanks Bilgepumps....for getting me on a tangent.

While the RAN has predominately been a Caribbean/Gulf force and a Coastal Pacific force, the colonization efforts, especially in Africa and Zealand have made the RAN a global navy in role.  In the post-Caicos building, 2 and then 3 more replenishment ships were constructed, at that time primarily to support cruisers operating in the Atlantic against a feared Roman threat.  These varied from 2 ships capable of supporting battlecruisers, the Sojourner class, and 3 capable of supporting cruisers, the Whale class.

However, it has come to my attention that further replenishment vessels would be needed to sustain ships in trans-pacific operations, or even provide support to ships that may from time to time require maintenance far from shore.

There are three options.

1)  An updated repeat of the Sojourner class 9000t replenishment ships.

2)  An updated repeat of the Whale class 6000t replenishment ships

3)  A new replenishment ship program varying from 12-20,000t.

After some debate, the sloop was reconfigured.  AA suite was enlarged, to make it a better ship for escorting in an environment where both torpedo boats and aircraft may become a problem (aircraft MGs, or the small bombs like the romans dropped during the war, would be able to cause a lot of problems for merchant ships) (AA guns aren't ideal but work perfectly well over open sights against torpedo boats).  ASW suite was tuned a bit planning for expansion with the ability to drop absolutely nasty patterns consistently.  Endurance is great for oceanic crossings or long patrols in the Caribbean.  In short, it is designed as a complete escort ship for merchants, and reasonably capable of escorting warships with its good endurance at higher cruising speeds.

Already the next battleship design is being developed, and the previous design has just been laid down.  Knowing that the ship has to be big and fast, there's a push to go ahead and get the first hull in production sooner, rather than wait until 1925.

The Result, a fast battleship with pretty tough armor, though her main battery doesn't have the throw weight of some other nations, a leftover of the Aztec backwardness in development of big guns.

The name might have to change, given recent developments with Rome:

And a pared down version.  Basically losing the extras like flag facilities above the normal bridge for a ship this size, slight reduction in armor, speed down 2kts to 27 from 29, cruising range lessened by 2000nm.  But it's a weight savings of around 5000t, and reduces the build time by 6 whole months.

And now for something completely different.  With some research finally getting new guns available, plus every nation on earth going for bigger and bigger battleships that are just overwhelming the Aztec ships, even if they're horribly inefficient about it, a design study into going up to bigger guns than the existing 360s is made.
