Japan will be looking at a variety of different capital ship designs going forward after the Fuso class. The logical next step would be the historical Ise class but without knowing where the Chinese are headed, Japan is looking at slower designs. First up is a maximum battleship, basically Agincourt with 14" guns and heavy armor and TDS. Next up will be a minimum design.

1)  That is very Japanese, planning to fight 2 ships at once.

2)  That is highly......erm....not sure what the right word for it would be.

QuoteWouldn't be enough deck space for eight turrets.

HMS Agincourt was 204m length with 7 turrets & 2 superfiring.

If you design this BB with compact superstructures, that's perhaps possible to have 8 centerline turrets & 2 superfiring.
but, on a 204m hull.

You could built this armament on a 190m hull with 8 turrets & 4 superfiring.
A kind of original Huyga/Ise look with 4 groups of 2 turrets.

and with only 92% of normal belt, at least 2 of those turrets are outside of armor.
