Don't you have the four funnels to prevent cross deck fire?

Yeah, that was part of it, but a refit could make cross deck fire possible in that case (hypothetically anyway) but it is a thought, would be up to the GMs I suppose.  If they said the mass stacks were good enough I would stagger them, just for continuity

@jef thanks man, the fact that the drawing came out soooo nice is honestly what made me want to build her, definitely a greyhound of the seas, the armour is crap but she is fast and sexy with damn nice firepower.  Definetly a ship the rest of the world would have to take notice of.

this is another variation on the "Maximum" mixed propulsion idea.  This one is AQY and would likely fit, better all around armour with the same speed as the preceding design (22 knots) but more range and less misc. weight, also ditched the 6" secondaries and upgraded the 3" to 4" essentially it is a budget dreadnought... While I think it is legal, unlike the preceding proposal I feel that this one is a violation of the spirit of the rules even though it is clearly legal.  Personally I would prefer to build the one with wing turrets :p but that's not my call.  As always opinions welcomed, and given the latest IJN proposal I may think even bigger than I currently am, although I am not sure I could justify putting that much tonnage into a single hull yet.

and finally taking somewhat of the IJN approach just plain bigger in every respect, but I ditched the mixed propulsion on this version.  better Armour, Faster, Bigger Basically this version is better in every possible way (ok ok so it costs a bit more).  Honestly I personally prefer the lighter mixed propulsion version but I tend to get attached to ideas, and the lighter weight one is more my style... On this one to be totally honest I am not sure I couldn't refit it to have cross deck fire if I staggered the turrets ala VDT or the Is (which given its size would be very very tempting).

Did you have SW or DD to built a 571ft hull ?

I have exactly 1 DD that can handle that long a hull, not that it matters the young eng. who proposed the wing turret ships has been removed from his office and sent to Congo where he cant do any additional harm (AKA I got told nope on wing turrets so I had to come up with a new interesting idea atm I am leaning toward a Dreadnought layout sans wing turrets for them).

Looking around, I can't find it so which 1902 BB/AC tech are the Dutch researching anyway? The all-big-gun ship with wing turrets or the all-big-gun ship with superfiring turrets (restricted axial firing arcs)?

Tanthalas

Wings initially, I will have to do the other one eventually but my first "Dreads" will use wings.

... so what's the problem with the wing turrets? Unless of course you want to start building it before you completed researching the tech. I'd push it to 1904 when your tech can become available. One year should not matter that much I would think. Might even give you a bit of time to add/expand a slip/dock or two so you can build a few more at the same time.

Tanthalas

oh that's exactly the issue walter, I wanted to lay down the semi dread 6 gun broadside before I had the tech then a "Improved" version after I had the tech.  But alas it was ruled a no go... so I had to come up with a new idea =P

Stick to your plan, delay it a bit, increase your infrastructure ICs and BPs when possible, build more for them once the BB/AC tech becomes available. :)

Actually I can sorta stick to the plan, and still lay down a version of the "Final".  Instead of going with the 4 turret version I will go with a "Q" turret version.  Think HMS Dreadnought without wing turrets, then when I get the tech I can plot the wings on her and POOF I am G2G.

So I am trying to decide how much "Growth" is enough for my next class, ATM I have multiple ideas some grow a lot some not so much.  the preceding class of Armoured Frigates was 11,000 tons light which given that they are essentially up gunned and up armoured versions of Armoured Cruisers is actually kind of light. The Current rendition is based loosely on the British Minotaur Class Armoured Cruiser, and comes in at almost exactly their "Factory Numbers" of 14,600 light (I ended up at 14,500) and 16,630 "normal" (I ended up at 16,369) I gave up one knot of top speed, but switched from their collection of 9.5" and 7.5" guns to 6X11" in keeping with my AQY layouts and added 2" of belt armour.

So my question is, what yall think is 3500 tons to much growth for one class or is it just about right? OH and btw I abandoned mixed propulsion for this one  :'(  they would have an appearance quite similar to HMS Dreadnought without wing turrets.

Ships would be named as follows

and now for something mildly interesting, They would be ALOT bigger than anything previously built but they are kinda cool.  Gobs of Misc. weight for future growth or whatever I wanted to put on em, Range for well literally days (could cruise from The Netherlands to any of the colonies without refueling).  Armoured against their own guns (a first for me) and still reasonably fast while not exceeding the mixed propulsion limits.  All in all not bad ships IMHO, and proly the best I could do pre Dreadnoughts.
