Would be nice to know the pre-start IC and BP cost as well as the cost of exchanging $$$ for BPs and vice versa.

KWorld

Yes, that needs to be set.

Also, I need to post the revised coast gun costs for parapet mounts, and deal with coast mortars.  Right now, I'm inclined to cost mortars the same as parapet mounts: it will overstate the costs in 1870 a bit, but it will be about correct (relatively) as long guns go to more expensive mounts.

KWorld

Oh, and we need to decide on how we're handling in-game costing of additional IC.  We've raised the possibility of changing from the N3 formula, but not really decided if it's worth it or what we should change to.

Darman

I think its worth changing, otherwise those with low populations will be screwed by higher IC costs, because we all start off the same income which means we will be adjusting incoming by adjusting IC rather than population.

Parapet mounts and coast mortars added.

My suggestion is ignore historic pop numbers.  Just give all the major powers the same amount.  Make all the open territory that is to be 'colonized / conquered' have not too much, perhaps a random amount.  Just pop, if any IC a very small amount and NO BP.

In N3 IC cost $75 per unit, BP cost $300 I believe.  Whatever the costs are for them is more dependent on the pace of game you want.  If you want rapid expansion and growth then make it cheap, slower pace make them higher.  I would keep the ratio the same 1 to 4 between the two in terms of cost.  If you drop the 4 IC to 1 BP ratio thats up to you.  $50 per IC would get you $200 per BP.  Here is a quick table of possible costs.

ICBP
$          75 $        300
$          70 $        280
$          65 $        260
$          60 $        240
$          55 $        220
$          50 $        200
$          45 $        180
$          40 $        160
$          35 $        140
$          30 $        120
$          25 $        100
$          20 $          80
$          15 $          60
$          10 $          40
$             5 $          20

My suggestion is beware of dropping the cost of IC much below $40 to start.  Economic expansion could get out of hand.

$50 might be a good number, thats 2/3 the N3 amount.

Again its up to you in terms of what type of pace you want for a game.

I'd have sworn I'd already updated the army rules to use the new regimental system, but apparently not.  :(  It's updated now.

Most of the way finished with an example start of Turn 1 spreadsheet for Austria, with the necessary updates to cover the changes from the last run.

In it, I'm getting to see the downside of that big army: even with a good chunk of it in reserve, A-H is still spending $15 on army and fortress maintenance.  :(

Walter

Hmmm...

I was looking at the fortresses and there is one thing that I do not understand. Compared to the previous rules, everything matches except for the BP cost of the 18 citadel fortress. It was 2.25 for the 1870 level and 4.5 for the 1895 level, but in the startup spending spreadsheet the cost for those two have suddenly changed to 9 and 18 respecively. I assume that that is a mistake since those numbers are for the artillery rating.

Sounds like an error to me.....  I'll fix.

Walter

With that BP cost, it would have been cheaper to build a 12-citadel fortress and a 6-citadel fortress separately.

Was just thinking of this. It is a  shame that Desertfox is not around because it would be very obvious what the next step would be: excommunicate his nation's leader.  ;D

Just had a realization: I'd forgotten to include the operational costs of government-owned infrastructure on the A-H first turn spreadsheet, and that that same page also had the wrong sizes for slips & docks.  Drat.

After putting those in, I realized the operational costs for slips & docks are WAY, WAY too high.  Currently, the A-H Navy is spending $2.8M per turn for upkeep of it's fleet.  As currently costed, the 6 slips & 4 docks it bought pre-start would cost it $34M per turn for upkeep!!!  I wanted there to be a reason to use commercial yards, but that's ludicrous.
