You'd probably want "twin mounts" vs the "2 row twin mounts you have", those result in stacked 12" guns.  Draft is quite high.

Other than that, looks very solid.

miketr

V1.1
Draft is whats listed in my Conway's All the Worlds Fighting Ships 1860-1905 for HMS Devastation.  I made some changes to the armor layout also.

Oh, I agree, HMS Devastation was a deep-draft vessel.  Whether that's the best choice for Brazil or not, I don't know.

miketr

A coast defense ship, should smash any wooden hulled ship that comes a calling to kindling.  Its cheap too.  Of course its armor is light, short ranged and slow.

Length to beam ratio is probably too low.  A sail rig plus turrets on the centerline means limited arcs to both sides along with no fore or aft fire, you might be better off with an arrangement like HMS Monarch, or a central battery ship.

I assume the layout would be like Monarch.  How do you set the guns to match?  My assumption is that with a sail rig you are just going to have problems on the turret firing archs and there is no way around it.

You need a turret to mount anything above 10" I figure and I wanted 12" guns.

Something like HMS Sultan might be better.

For some reason I was thinking Monarch had her turrets mounted to the sides and capable of cross-decking, don't know why I was thinking that.  Apparently I was confusing her with the later designs, like HMS Inflexible.

As far as central-battery guns, the Austrians would mount 11" guns on SMS Tegethoff, so I think you'd be OK up to about 12".  Bigger, maybe, the French Devastation-class looks like it mounts 34cm guns in a central battery arrangement.
