The concerns I'd have at this point are mostly armor related: the weak armor over the quarterdeck, and the large expanse of unarmored sides, because of the very high freeboard.

Also, it looks like your 3" guns might need to go up or down, on side ends they could be in the way of the 11" or 4.7" guns.

Tanthalas

Down, thought I did that (but aparently not) Honestly I would like to lower the freeboard (she is still IMHO way to seaworthy) but then I would loose my lowerd quarterdeck =P and have to figure out what to do with the composite I gaind (perhaps lighten her a bit and get back to 22 knots) *trundles off to play with it some more*

Another option would be to thicken the belt & upper belt armor (and increase the armor over the quarterdeck).  :)

Tanthalas

I cut a couple feet of freeboard off her, and used it to increase over all armor coverage.  Ill proly continue to play with the armor layout but this can be considerd more or less the final production version

My Admiral Nakhimov class armored cruisers actually have better protection than your battleship. It is heavily armored for its type, but the belt is tall enough on it to provide some protection against shells hitting below water. This design doesn't enough have enough armor to protect the freeboard and has a tactically insignificant increase in firepower and speed over it. If the armored cruiser wanted to it could simply chase down your battleship due to its superior range.

I know that tumblehome does give some strength and seakeeping advantages for a given size of ship, but overall this design offers essentially no improvement. Try to find a way to put your extra 5% of hull weight to use elsewhere in the design. If you can get your battleship to a hull weight similar to my cruiser you will have another 675 tons for use in improving the design.

EDIT: This was referring to the earlier design.

KWorld

You still have 5' of unarmored hull above the upper belt.....

Also, why are some of your 4.7" guns breech loaders (what I'd expect) and some quick-firers?

Tanthalas

@Kworld Mostly cause I forgot to change one set (the 4.7 is a QF gun not a Bag gun), as to the unarmored freeboard... meh im still playing with it.

@delta What you are doing is just so you know WHY buldges were ilegal in 2.0.

And finaly a bone to my preferd 3 turret layouts it can still turn 21 knots which is blazing fast for this period IMHO, has all around better armor.  Layout is AXY and honestly I have plenty of room for the guns.

While 1905 is quite a ways off, I decided to mess around with Battlecruisers a bit.  this is a potential 1905 ship layout would be more or less VdT with an 8 gun broadside, Upper belt only covers the hull casemates.  Its a bit lighter armored and a bit slower than I would prefer but all around not a bad ship realy.

Given the narrow seas where the RMI operates, is 5 guns per side for keeping off TBs and DDs going to be enough?  Also, given those same seas, are you putting more of a premium on seakeeping than you need to?

Tanthalas

I am actualy torn on these issues personaly, I think I have been placing to many anti TB/DD guns on my hulls (seriously 9X4.7" and 4X3" per broadside is kind of...) I can still manage to squeaze in the 8X3" (I did it later but was to lazy to repost) as to the seakeaping on my ships honestly it ends up wherever it ends up... I seriously dont try for any kind of specific number.

Heh, some period designers would think that your 9 4.7" and 4 3" per side is fine, or even light (see the Bureau of Construction plan for what would become the USS Connecticutt class: 4 x 12", 24 x 7", and 24 x 3").  I'm just raising the question.

Tanthalas

Oh I know about that one LOL, and yeah I know what your saying I just cant decide how many would be "reasonable" since im not mounting any 6" guns.
