Pretty solid against small cruisers, and fine for showing the flag, but it's definitely NOT going to want to tangle with a real AC of any sort.

@Kworld esentialy thats the purposes im designing for so I hit fairly well this time around.  Honestly I wouldnt expect them to face any real ACs, thats what the Gladius is for.  These would be cheap show the flag units that could act as supporting ships for the big girls in war time.

@jef im of 2 minds on the speed issue... on one hand they need to be able to operate with the 23 knot ACs and 22 knots is about as slow as I can have them and still be able to scout for the 20 knot BBs.  On the other hand the 2X9.2" realy isnt all that great and droping them to 21 knots would allow me to add a second pair of 9.2" guns (and improve armor over all heck just droping the secondary guns to 4.7" would let me add one more gun).

Realisticly all my light weights are compromises I was rather depressed though as the ship I based them on made 24 knots in trials.

as a 21 knot ship it looks somthing like this (which truth told I kind of like) 21 knots is a bit slow for my tastes but it has teath (while it still douldnt take on a real cruiser one tangeling with it would know it had been in a fight)

Casemate mounts and no upper belt armor? Then they would be unprotected except for their very small shields.

IMO, I choose 21kts AC with 4x9"2 + 10x6" - belt 5" to work near the actual BBs
& light scout cruisers with 6x6" + 8x100 - 23-24kts

Speed cost very much in 1901, so, classic ACs & fast light cruiser are more economical.

the 24 knot one is just kind of a lark, I wonderd if you could even get there in 1901 (since the ship I based the Lissa class on made that in trials).  Course the ship I based them on had no 9.2" guns it did have 4X6" in a pair of twin turrets fore and aft, but I felt that was insuficiant for the mission.

With 2T2, the ACs are smaller, you could probably built 3 or 4 of them.

What mission ? ACs are not made to scout the BBs!!!
That's really too expensive. they could be a fast "wing" of the BBs line.
but light cruisers are made to scout BBs.

@ Jef i'm commited to building the pair of Gladius class units as I have already layed them down in H1 1900.  What im trying to find is somthing that can operate with them in wartime (without slowing them down to teribly much), but thats cheap enough I can use it as a Colonial flag ship/convoy escort.  I have a few ideas for CLs to (remember I also built Torpedo Cruisers).  Bigest thing im trying to do though is avoid my personal pit trap of building nothing but battleships and Destroyers...

For Italy, it's not that odd: consider the historical Italia class, laid down in 1876 and displacing 15,000 tons at full load, with a top speed (for Lepanto) of 18.4.

Size caps really make no sense anyway: shipyards were more than capable of building bigger ships (see the great ocean liners of the day), navies simply didn't order them that big.
