The ship is more of a cruiser killer than battleship right now because of the small main armament. I'd either decrease armor (and perhaps increase speed) and make it a big gun armored cruiser or decrease speed and give it battleship caliber guns.

Yea, but that's how they were build. The reasoning was (as far as I know), that these new smaller guns were just as powerful as the 28 cm black-powder guns used before and thus replacing them for less cost.

Given the tonnage I have, I'm probably going to build the historic ships plus some closer to what others build.

When during the build of the first ship of a new generation, first signs of material fatigue in important rivet locations began to occur, the production of subsequent ships of this class was slowed down or delayed until after its maiden voyage. That however turned out to be a near disaster when the ship came across a mild storm. Luckily no one was killed and the Brandenburg made it into the next harbor - just. As a result the other ships were immediately scrapped, while the Brandenburg itself was intensively studied and analyzed. The result was that new ships would follow international doctrine and carry only two main turrets while the data aquired from the wrecked ship would allow German engineers to improve the toughness of their future designs.

Nobody

After switching to the newly developed doctrine that rated volume of fire over caliber the Germans soon found out that their newly laid down ships of the line (Kaiser Friedrich III class) were under-gunned with their 24 cm main artillery when compared to international rivals. That and the need to fill the hole cause by the Brandenburg disaster led the following hasty design, using almost the same engines:

Im a bit confused as to why engine year is 1902 on the last design and also why the 37mm are listed as automatics. Aside from that, I would drop the torpedo bulkhead (illegal until the 1904 BB/AC tech BTW) and thicken the deck a bit. 50mm is just a bit thin for my tastes, I would try and get 75mm for the citadel.

Shell weights, acording to my Data the OTL guns looked somthing like this.

11.1"/40 529 pounds
11.1"/45 666 pounds

its not a big deal just a personal nitpick but that is the OTL numbers as far as I know (although as germany you can change em if you want I supose)  ;D

Because I thought for some obscure reason that the first tech level we would have at game start was 1898, Engine Year 1902.

Quoteand also why the 37mm are listed as automatics.
Because it doesn't matter and its the imho the most fitting description for the Hotchkiss.

I'll have do something about the bulkhead then, didn't remember that research was required for that. Not sure what to do with the deck, otl it got thinner over time (longer higher velocity guns at low range -> no need for deck armor?).

They were certainly not using pounds, but (if possible) round kilogram numbers and so did I. SS3 just uses more digits when calculating between the systems. Plus I put the 28cm/45 there from memory and a 2 kg error is neglectible compared to the several percent manufacturing variation.

On the armored deck(s) you have it listed as multiple decks. This means to me, that 50mm is the total thickness of all armored decks combined and not just the main armored deck, hence my comment about thickness. I agree a ~2"/50mm main deck is fine, but spread over multiple decks I feel it is a bit thin. I don't think it effect the overall output of the report, but still is needed information should the ship become involved in combat.

Ah well, I just didn't change the default. Plus I don't know how they were arranged. You can look at the plans of e.g. the Wittelsbach-class, but they don't contain any information on the armor thickness (but it does look like at least 2 decks).

Looks much better to me.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when solider lads march by
Sneak home and pray that you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.
