But those were 14 knots and gunboats, not 26 knots....that makes a big difference.

Kaiser Kirk

14 vs 26kts is a matter of how we implement the game mechanics.

I was simply providing an example of a small combatant in that size range with that type of arms and armor.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Ok reworked a few things. And guess I should explain some of my choices.
First of the ship is designed to fit in a Type 0 slipway or drydock. I dont have many bigger ones, so the number of larger ships dimension wise would be limited. Second, due to the limited number of total slips, I need a ship that can fill a large number of roles. Currently, my best gunboat is primarily a minelayer. Third, since the number of total ships in any given theater of operations will most likely be small, communication between individual ships operating alone is a high priority, hence the long range wireless.

Changes for this one: I eliminated the armor belt, it seemed sort of unpopular and infective. I also got rid of the deck armor and thined out the coning tower. I also lowered the normal displacement from 750t to 550t

On the subject of reworking the required speed for DD/TB standers: How about tieing it to engine year? (ie 1912 engines: 25 knts for DD standards, 1920 engines 30 knts for DD standards) And would it be possible to move that discussion to a new thread?

Heh....we judge purchase prices on light displacement, so you have an extra 68 tons to work with....although stuff gets built a lot faster when it is under 500 tons.

I know, just pointing out what I changed as SS has no input for light displacement

You simply adjust until it tells you the right Light Displacement. If example if you did a sim and it says 499 tons and you want 500 tons. Just adjust the tonnage to jump the light tonnage by 1. You do so with adjusting the dimensions and the cB.

The 2 21" torpedo's need 4 ton of misc weight, and adding another set of tubes won't hurt. (upping the needed weight to 8 ton)
Even if it would cost a main gun. It would be a fair deal, the torps of that size are a real deterrent to heavier ships.
And if 4 4" guns are needed to bring a merchant to bay, when 3 can't , it's a strange merchant.
But, it's your vessel.

I tried adding more tubes but I dont have any deckspace left, so 2 is were it stays for now. There are always bigger types but read my post a few above this, trying for best allround in a type 0 slip/dock that I can. Any other comments?

I repeat, drop the third gun, get one more twin tube. Or get them all superfiring. Right now you only have one gun superfiring, which means one gun is not and most take up more space than necessary.

I think there's no point in having both 25mm guns and 12.7mm guns on the ship. Stick with one.

Sachmle

I think the 2 on the bow are side by side like older German CLs. I'd ditch the 1" mgs and put a triple TT launcher amidships on a turntable if it was me.

      - Overall: 0.60
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is cramped
Room for accommodation and workspaces is cramped
Ship has slow, easy roll, a good, steady gun platform
Excellent seaboat, comfortable, can fire her guns in the heaviest weather

25 tons long range wireless
10 tons for mines (or depth charges once I have the tech)
12 tons 21inch torpedos (1 set reloads)
3 tons construction reserve and expantion room
Trial speed: 27 knts
I got a triple TT launcher on her with out having to sacrifice a gun. Aside from being a bit cramped, I like her.

Dropping the armour belt does the trick - is now very seaworthy and packs a useful punch for it's size - handy little ship   :)

but would suggest one further tweak - stability is bit low whilst steadiness is bit higher than needed - you can trade-off a bit by adjusting the trim

also - i'm not sure you need 12 tons for just 3 reload Torps?? - can someone more expert comment on that ...

maybe you can have 2x2 TT with a reload for the tonnage you have assigned?

I learned that a small ship and reloading torpedo tube's isn't a task that goes well together.
Better is to have a tender that goes in and brings the reloads, and the equipment to do so ,after the fish are expended.

For Ireland the tender can be replaced by a trip to port.

A 1913 21" torpedo weights 2 tons according to the rules, so 3 in the tubes and 3 reloads together are 12 tons.

Ok here is the newest version. I removed one of the guns after trying to draw it in the configuration that I wanted. It would not fit. The torpedo reloads have been dropped, the weight reassigned to construction reserve (gives me more wiggle room on mines and such)
