That deck shows is using a bit too much hindsight. I would think 4'' at this point in history should be the maximum.

I would use the extra weight on more belt armour, that's really thin. Perhaps the more standard 4x2 arrangement of the turrets, with two superfiring, for better ROF.

maddox

The deck seems typical for the ESC ships, very thick.  And that in an age when artillery duels are held at 10Kyards or closer....

TexanCowboy

I'd just like to see the *kafoomp* factor when that thin belt gets pentrated by the French 15'' guns...  :D

The Rock Doctor

Will the Netherlands be signing on to the Richmond Naval Treaty?

Kaiser Kirk

Draft is possibly an issue.
Not sure how Navalism works here, but Original time line the controlling depth of Suez was listed as 34 feet in 1958.   Of course most DEI harbors were ~7m, but we're not doing harbor depths....but dunno about the canals.

150 rounds/main gun is a fairly large number.

The anti-surface 125mm guns would be better as 150mm.
More MGs than needed.

Above water torpedoes on a vessel that you probably don't want in torpedo range of foes?

Belt armor is minimal in thickness and height, while Deck is overly thick for the current or near term combat ranges.

In general, as a personal preference,  I like the turret faces slightly thicker than the rest, as they have large holes which limit their structural resilience compared to a solid plate.

Torpedo bulkhead stops nearly 3m below the waterline. Which could lead to flooding issues.

A BC of 0.47 seems rather low for a capital ship. She may have issues burying her bow in seas or other issues.

Trimmed to 70 puts it just over the threshold of what Maddox said was reasonable from the Mod's PoV, AFAIK.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

The Rock Doctor

I'm asking for general information, rather than with regard to this specific design.

I think the BC and L/B are both too low for a ship this size and speed.

She'll have the devil's own time with shoals and wrecks in the North Sea.
I'd hate to be aboard her when she finds an unmarked merchant's grave on the Broad Fourteens.
So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;
We gives you your certificate, an' if you want it signed
We'll come an' 'ave a romp with you whenever you're inclined.

The draught of 10.73m for the 35Kton BB could be an handicap. There is no Nverse French GBB with a draught over 9.2m, Not even the 40Kton Montmedie and Mont Bruyere.

I admit, the sleek hull shape with a broad beam for the French BB's is a personal taste.

The North Carolinas and the South Dakotas were just as deep in the waves as this tub. I hate to think how deep Vanguard rode under load. Same for Jean Bart, I think she rode 9.5 meters deep. Some of the old Russian Baltic Sea pre-dreadnoughts rode even deeper.....

I see your point, clearly, but for a hull this size? Its in the normal range.

True about historical examples.

But, we diverted from the real history around the 16th century, with Japan blowing up.

If you feel right with the normal draught of 10.73m, so be it. Every state has its foibles, doesn't it?
