I guess my question will be - what can these large cruisers accomplish that a force of conventional light cruisers and submarines can not?

I think the appeal is idea of them blasting similar sized Cruisers into little pieces - sad I know ....

Peru made other choices - lower speed (24 to 27kts) but heavier protection & just 6 bigger guns.

The other guy will be generally aware of the capability of your cruisers, so in what situation is he going to offer up his light cruisers without either having heavy back-up or the ability to run away?

Good possibility for squadron wing.
Certainly good cruiser for raid on the enemy coast.
Could be serious enemy for the Escort Cruiser.

As an Example his Cruisers would be a serious threat to the new cruiser scouting force his ships are bigger, and more heavily armed.  Not something my ships would want to take on but new Protect Scout Cruisers are designed to do one thing scout.

So in any theoretical engagement the cruisers you are proposing donot have a speed advantage to run down any of my New Crusiers now any of my Old Cruisers you could run down easily.  But the new Scouting force is designed to close to close to maximum range report on what they find and fall back on the two AC 1913.  And then onto the Battle Line.

They would refuse combat.

Overall - it would involve a lot of cat and mouse - all the more fun

But if they can dominate outside of direct confrontation with BB - i'm happy - objective achieved  :)
