When I SS & draw the ship, I think about bow & stern casemate concept...

A large circular room , (diam 4m) to receive all gun installation & gunners. A rotation platform for the gun.
The circular room is open by small windows on rails for the guns (-5°+30° elevation).

I believe that a rotating platform is the "barbette" part of the "turret&barbette".

A casematte is when you have a gun in a fixed position with a slit to fire from. The slit can be covered by a mobile shield.

The classic casemate mount with axis is not optimum for 270° rotation.
2 rails (purple)are certainly better...

If you were to use new machinery of the same weight, how fast could she go?

That's a good idea, change the engines later to have higher speed.

Quickly, I think ... 27kts.

I must recalculate & modif the hull to have 27kts in the futur.
-----
note the economical of the study.
Have quickly a correct AC in the BS with only 9BPs.

I rather like the idea tbh.  I was toying around with somthing similar for Rohan (although I was thinking more like BBs than Cruisers)

the 12300T study is made with Antofagasta engines + LaPaz Engine - total 38600SHP
Here is an other with just Antofagasta engines (19300SHP)

The speed is just 21kts, the same as the super-dreadnoughts BB Atahualpa & BB Waskhar...
Short, but I could built 2x9500t SC with a total cost of 16BPs.
The first in 1918:
- BB Antofagasta engines (19300SHP)
- BB Cuzco - 2T2x12"
- BB Inty - 1T2x12"
The second in 1920:
- BB LaPaz engines (19300SHP)
- BB Inty - 1T2x12"
- BB Illapa - 2T2x12"

Stability is low at 1.02 and she's got a L/B higher than RL Iowa (7.39/1 BTW) with a fairly low BC for a BB (0.500).

The low stability is a direct result of the high L/B ratio, I imagine.

The other thing that sticks out is the main belt. 3.1m on a 27+ knot ship seems pretty short to me.

An interesting illustration of the limits of building fast capital ships.

Just for giggles though: what could you do if she shipped 30cm guns instead of the 34cm?

This 24250t BB is not really serious. I SS quickly before going to bed...  :D  :D  :D

i think the Fast BB has potential (well i like Fast BBs) - a few items to tweak - upper + end belts, as well as narrow main belt, bit more beam to increase stability - a 26kton Fast BB could be handy  ;D

Jefgte

I agree, 26000t is certainly better, 24250t is too light.
