Fearful and full of trepidation about all those enermous cruisers with battleship guns out there, the new Panzerkreuzer will be just as fast.

It is to serve in the Atlantic. In the last war many merchants disapearred there. The colonial avizos have certain limitations, like not being able to stand up to a small cruiser ...

The Main Belt is enough against 6" shells.
The End and Upper Belts protects from the odd 4"-5" shells making holes.

Seakeeping rating is lower than I'd like, but hopefully still reasonable.

Turrets are:
Anton - fore, deck level
Berta - fore, superfiring
Ceasar and Dora - aft, back to back

Will be laid down in 2/1915, after the Small Cruisers are fully paid for with both money and metal.

The coal is for easier availability.

At 8500 tonnes, I should be able to build three, maybe even six of these ships.

The Rock Doctor

Generally, I like her.

I'm not sure I'd bother with the 4" - if it spends most of the time out in the Atlantic protecting shipping, you won't encounter many torpedo-boats.

Would you not want to provide for BB/AC fire control?

Borys

Thanks for pointing out that I erroneously used the "small cruiser FC".
Swapped the 4" for 5,3" guns, which can be a bigger nuisance to AMCs or smaller cruisers.

What do you want to achieve with two 5.35" guns on a broadside?
The first purpose of a warship is to remain afloat. Anon.
Below 40 degrees, there is no law. Below 50 degrees, there is no God. sailor's maxim on weather in the Southern seas

Borys

I suppose you're right - they'd be only useful for warning shots ...
So either delete secondary battery, or leave the 4"?

Final version, hopefully - with the 4" battery restored.

Ship space, strength and comments:
Space   - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 102,3%
      - Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 127,3%
Waterplane Area: 23 811 Square feet or 2 212 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 109%

Ahoj!
I plan to lay down two such vessels in 2/1915, and another pair in 1/1916.
The turret arrangement is like on the HMS Tiger.

BTW - in 2/1915 I will join the "1000 tonnes destroyer" club.

Main belt does not fully cover magazines and engineering spaces

May not want to build two of these.
