DF, the w/t message was Encrypted as that is the standard NS procedure. If you want to send something without encryption, mention it beforehand, not two days after the original post.

I wasn't around for two days. Manta was being fired at and running, it's not like they had the time or inclination to encrypt the message.

They also don't have a choice to encrypt.

If an unencrypted message is send, how can the others be sure it's manta, and not a MK or Firenj trick to ambush other ships?
It's know the New Swiss use Marconi more extensively than anyone else and encrypted after "others" catched up and started to intercept and abuse messages.

The very reason i commented about the message being in clear, is seems likely what the ships sends is not what the others will hear.
But that is not something for public consumption.

Telegraph lines in the Indian Ocean

There are Four.

French system connecting Djibouti to Ceylon, this then continues in the Malacca straits to French Indochina. One branch goes from Ceylon to Calcutta, then crosses Siam to reach Saigon. Another branch runs from Djibouti to French East Africa, then to misc French isles in IO connecting to Firanj.

Third is Dutch-DKB, from Congo to Kenya, then to the Batavia via the Chagos islands.

Fourth is Orange-Swiss, running from Durban to Chagos (Swiss station on one of the islands) and then to Keeling and to Swiss East Australia via Christmas Island (leased by Orange, but the Telegraph station is operated by the Swiss). It has a branch from Keeling to Batavia.

There are interconnections between the systems.

However, if Korpen cuts the line from Keeling to Christmas it might piss off Orange.

Thanks! If Korpen cuts the line, let me know which side (or both?) of Keeling he cuts it in. It can be important. Keeling has a wireless station too but that is short range useful only for communicating with nearby ships.

27 March...or September...

QuoteThe Republic of Gran Colombia wishes to advise users of the Darien Canal of changes to canal operating procedures as a result of the reported Franco-Swiss conflict in the Indian Ocean:

1.  Effective immediately, the Canal is closed to Swiss and French-flagged merchant vessels and warships.

2.  Effective immediately, the Canal ports at Colon and San Miguelito are closed to the same.  Vessels currently in port shall be required to depart the roadsteads for these ports within thirty-six hours or be interned.

3.  Other Gran Colombian ports remain open to Swiss and French-flagged merchant vessels and warships, for periods of up to twenty-four hours.  Continued access to these ports will depend upon New Switzerland and France honoring the neutrality of Gran Colombian territorial waters.

These operating procedures have been instituted in the interests of the safety of Gran Colombian and third-party interests, and do not reflect any desire to inflict punitive measures upon either New Switzerland or France.  The operating procedures will be adjusted as further information becomes available.
