One thing I need to know is, exacly what dates this is going on, before I respond I need to know where my ships are.
OOC
I think we should take a short pause and untagle the confusion.

Ok, it seems the information i got from the mods was not 100% correct then.
I got the impression from the information that the Swiss force was split in two, heading west and SE, and organized my forces accordingly.
If it was thee Swiss groups that left the area i will organize my search parties differently, and the events at Keeling will not take place, until a day later.

Keeling is 150 miles of the battle.

Arriving and picking up survivors  7 hours + 2 hours.

Cruise speed of the Dutch ships is a few kts higher than the speed of the heavy damaged Perch or the  escorted merchants.

9 hours puts the dutch flottlia 90 Nm behind. After 6 hours the Dutch gain 24 Nm on the fleeing NS and merchants, and a lot more on poor Perch. What doesn't have much options than to crawl to Keeling.

The Dutch admiral opted for a surefire methode.  Approaching Keeling, and demand a direct explanation. As Keeling is the fastest way to use his means to regain the convoy and avoid a diplomatical disaster fom everyone.
If you read clearly, he's doing everything in his possibilities to reduce communication.

Can you imagine what would happen if the French survivors had gotten acces to a marconi and could speak to Tricomalee or Tourane.

Korpen, the only confusion is in the visual information from the survivors. They have seen the ships leave, but from a liferaft , visibility isn't that far.

You guys ought to be passing orders to the mods and letting them sort out what happens.  It minimizes the confusion.

Ithekro

(This is the primary reason Rohan has not reacted at all to this situation...the details are not yet final, nor is the amount of information the outside world would have well defined.)

Desertfox

We need a map showing the modified coastline, Keeling, and Tortugas, that should help.

All my three groups should reach land by the 25th, Atair by the 27th. If the Dutch are to catch the ships headed for Tortugas they have to chase immidiently after they rescue survivors if not they'll probably escape.

You have (very fast) fast freighters - 12 knots.

That is what i did, and got informed i did catch a group at sea and one at keeling.

What shouldn't be a big surprise, with a visual thanks to the flares.

And Keeling doesn't run away at all.

The Flandern group basically picked two officers from the first survivors, and then headed off, leaving the ships that are to go after the slower Swiss ships to pick up survivors. My conduct there was sent to the Moderators days ago.

True, that is why i fell sorry i might have to chase down the UKA merchant and make it disappear.

Ok, you can see the horizon at about 3nm from 2m up, but the superstructure and smoke out to at least twice that.
A 20m high smoke plume can be seen at 10nm for someone in the water.

Nice little tool i have been using much the last few days: http://www.boatsafe.com/tools/horizon.htm

QuoteThis map good enough Desertfox?
No, I want something that shows 'Tortugas' too. That way we can each place exacly where our ships are located and minimize confusion. Unfortunately we choose one of the most modified parts of the world to have this little adventure!

QuoteThat is what i did, and got informed i did catch a group at sea and one at keeling.
That's the problem, I don't have anything at Keeling, and three different groups at sea. Which one and when is the question.

Note that the merchants an escorts didn't separate untill nightfall (so the survivors only know of one group)

Perfect!

The battle would have been 90 E and slightly S of Equator?

That means Manta's group is heading due W and will turn SW to reach Tortugas.

Balao is heading SW and will turn due W.

Distance is 600 miles or 2 1/2 days sailing time at 10 kts. If no delays the ships should reach Tortugas at nightfall of the 24th (battle on morning 22nd right?)

As soon as I get home I'll draw in the planned paths for each of the groups.

OOC:I think Ithekro placed Keeling a bit too far north (I had it on the same latitude as Batavia, same longitude), but it does not matter much.
Well, I made all my moves day ago, and I will stick with what i have said my ships will do and leave the results to the Mod team, no matter were it will takes me, geographically or figuratively.

Basically, i am just waiting for the response from the Swiss, if the moderators do not have anything more to add.

Perch is being towed at a few knots at most. It is just taking too much water if you go fast. Some of the Swiss seamen from the sunk ships IMHO are travelling on the liners, as there's just not enough space on the destroyers.
The first purpose of a warship is to remain afloat. Anon.
