It is further then that, as Keeling is moved 500nm to the north west, so Batavia is 1800km dead east.
The new position is around 6°36S  90°32E

ADDED LATER:
Would Soorabaja be closer?

No the closest city is Bengkulu on Sumatra about 1400km away.
There are naval telegraph stations on some of the outlaying islands however.

How did keeling move? Oh yes.

The signal would probably be relayed anyhow. Major Daniels works in the Norman Consulate in Jakarta/Batavia, whatever it is called.

If Keeling had not moved it would be landlocked in the new land mass attached to australia. And as it was central to the story, it hade to be moved. :/

But the geography of the matter just hit me: The merchantman but me pretty much dead east of the island, at dawn, close to the equator.
He will only see silhouette staring into the sun at 18km. As my frigates are south of the island at a distance of at around 6-7nm from keeling and a approach closer to the island would be intercepted.

The Dutch commander at Keeling isn't particularly subtle, I see.

There is likely a wee bit of GC merchant shipping in the area - conveying agricultural goods such as tea, for example - but not so much that I think an encounter with the protagonists is in order.  Gran Colombia will be relying on other nation's reports to interpret what's happening.

H.I.I.M.S. Henrique o Navegador (Armored Cruiser) and H.I.I.M.S. Leon (Protected Cruiser) raise steam and then set sail from Cadiz.  They head west across the Atlantic towards central America and the Darian Canal.  Then they head west out across the Pacific.

OOC As soon as H.I.I.M.S. Cristóbal Colón is done fitting out and shaking down she will join the other two.  Iberia is moving its modern units to what it considers a threatened area.

The Rock Doctor

Gran Colombia will give the Iberian ships priority for transit upon their arrival.  The squadron is welcome to visit Gran Colombian ports for the purposes of coaling and leave, if desired.

As an aside - a few days after "Agrival" and "Peru" start appearing in newspapers together, Gran Colombia's Second Battle Squadron and a squadron of the Fourth Torpedo-Boat flotilla casually transit the Canal and mosey down to Esmeraldas.

Madrid is greatful for the offer and the ships will make several port calls and take leave.

Hmm so Java suddenly morphed into 4 AFs and 4 SLs?  How did they get there so fast? I mean Java found the survivors, rescued them, found the Swiss ships, then found its own ships, got to Keeling, and cut the cable, all in less than 12 hours and without using wireless! That's a pretty impresive performance since Keeling last time I checked was around 2-3 days sailing time (15kts) from the battle zone.

Where did the heavy ships come from? As far as I can tell Dali's wireless isnt exacly powerful and only Java heard it, and Java has not broken radio silence.

One last thing, I have absolutely no ships at Keeling as of the 23rd. Perch and her two escorts is still 2-3 days sailing time away. Atair is 3-4 days sailing time away coming from new Amsterdam.

Java was never alone, she was part of the squadron from the first hour, but the Dutch commander had not intention to declare to the world exactly what he had on hand, so only Java made any noise. Java did send two messages.

As the real position of Keeling island in fact landlocked so P3D said it was moved 500nm to the NW, that puts it about 150nm from the position of the battle.

The battle would still have happened around 500 miles away from it as that is what I calculated for the time on which I engaged. My ships where at least 2 days sailing time from Keeling.

So the Dutch had an 8 ship squadron just sailing around? Interesting. So which ships are the Dutch hailing? Manta or Balao?

OOC
removed the date on the Dutch entry

They are not more than 14 hours behind the NS ships.  And the NS ships have the distinct disadvantage of herding slow merchants.  Also, not much options for the NS ships. Every route they would take to get anywere is bringing them closer to Firenj or the Netherlands. Unless a very circumventing and long route is taken.

Taking in account that there is a distress signal seen, it's not very difficult to know were the merchants are. Their speed is know and the spot were everything started.

Be glad Perch is missed during the night of Pursute. Otherwise she would had a rough time.
P³D on Perch, how bad is she. 25% damage or 75% damage?

Also, Korped doesn't speak of the merchants  at Keeling.  He just demanded a face to face confrontation with the Commander on Keeling. It is up to you to say what ship is there or not.

However the merchants are moving away from the Neatherlands and Farinj into the Indian Ocean, they are also split into two separate groups.

My ships are placed as follows:

Manta, 1 Fritz, 2 Merchants, enroute (2-3 days) to Tortugas to the North.

Balao, 2 Fritz, 2 Merchants, enroute (2-3 days) to Tortugas to the South.

Perch, 2 Fritz, enroute (2-3 days) to Keeling from the West.

Atair, enroute (3-4 days) to Keeling from the East.

Other ships are also moving...

In fact it was less the 14h, my ships arrived at scene of battle 7h after the Swiss left, and i had the headings from the survivors.
