Light Destroyers are the cheaper all-purpose craft tasked with operating with support units and escorting less essential vessels in the great oceans or closed-in seas. They fall into two categories: Second Class and Third Class vessels. In Russian nomenclature, Second Class destroyers are defined as being around 750 Tons and the Third Class are around 500 Tons or smaller and possess smaller amounts of guns but most have good minesweeping and ASW outfits.

The Classes below outline the current russian inventory.

Second Class(750 Tons):

Rules to build by...

I have reworked the SS Files to use higher BC's(0.47ish), less freeboard, and lower length ratios(<10:1) for better realism(ie. not abusing the SS system). For DD types I will always keep machinery weight totals above 50%(yet another abuse IMO).

I have also started adding weight to gun mounts by adding armor. For example, the Russian 4"/60 cal gun was a very large and heavy gun(almost six tons with single mount) firing extra large shells at medium high velocity. SS only counts it as a 4 ton weapon. To use this excellent gun it seems only fair to add an extra 2 tons to the weight(I add 25mm armor to the front-which I will try to remember to delete-although it will stillshow in the % breakdowns).

To represent the dredge hoists used in DDs(and later buckets) I have added two 'mount & hoist' guns(one fore, one aft), additional guns only use deck mounts. This should steal some hull strength to allow higher Rates of Fire with no guilt!

An odditity on Russian DDs was the desire to cram lots of guns onboard. These guns have very limited arcs of fire(only to the broadsides for most) having to be evelvated to 30* just to clear the other gun crews. I have tried to include this in the larger designs, realising that most have little actual value.

Very capable large destroyer for the period. Size was grandfathered. Rebuilt in 1910.

Although expensive, the 1910 Rebuild and other recent upgrades have brought these ships up to more modern standards. The much increased range allows this class a chance of escorting the slow 12" Black Sea Battleships in a battleline.

This class is a breakoff from the Ochotnik DDs. Built at a later date they took advantage of more modern machinery. Very unusual for destroyers is the 2 4" guns mounted in casemates at the forward end of the ship. Once I saw a picture of these odd vessels, I could not pass up the opportunity of creating them.
They were rebuilt in 1914 with new 4"/60 Guns and Oil Firing Boilers.

In 1915 Russia and the Ukraine made a series of agreements resulting in technology trades for Civilian Vessels and Warships. This allowed the Ukraine to modernize and utilize to the full its lagging Shipbuilding Industry. The benefits to Russia were obvious, modern ships could be built allowing it to concentrate on the growing Coastal Defense projects and fleet support expansion.

These vessels formed the bulk of the Ukrainian produced ships. Although not as seaworthy as the larger Noviks, these ships provide a heavy armament and good speed for their size. The original Ukrayna's were 24 strong at 581Tons, I could not produce a satisfactory DD at that weight. For the same tonnage I made 4x750Ton Leaders and 16x684Ton DDs. While they are not great, they are better than the 581 tonners.
