An advancement in turret arrangment thinking led to a forward amidships placement of a third twin turret. (A, B, and X) This new class would also use a much larger engine then previous models making it one of the faster battleships in the world. No longer would Rohan's battleships need to crawl into battle, but they could charge in with the cruisers. To do this, the Rohirrim also developed a new guns type, a 4.5 inch quick fire to replace the 3 inch and 6 inch on battleships.

Better guns equaled bigger battleships. The Eomer-class was designed as an improved Theoden.  Eomer was heavily modifed with a superimposed "B" turret following the Anahuac War.  Fengel Would have received a similar rebuild during her 1912 yard period were she not destroyed in a magazine accident in 1906

Eomer was rebuilt in 1912 to act as a fleet flagship for the pre-Arcadia battleships and given fire control.

The Elfwine-class is designed to be a better Eomer, with better seakeeping, and the first Rohirrum battleship in a long time that was not wet towards the bow. Also longer ranged.

Brytta was seriously delayed during construction due to the Anahuac War and was heavily modified on the slips to include a superimposed "B" turret.  Elfwine was be rebuilt with this feature during her scheduled 1912 rebuild.

Both ships were rebuilt in 1912 to the same specifications

In 1900 the French and Anahuac Governments signed away a piece of what was then the nearly besieged Anahuac Providence of New Rhun. This deal left a bad taste in the mouth of the Kingdom of Rohan, that was in the process of taking all of New Rhun. Shortly after the war the Kingdom of Rohan managed to get the Republic of France to pay rent on the land that should belong to Rohan after the defeat and collapes of the Anahuac Empire. For use of the territory for the construction of a trancontiental canal, the Republic of France gave Rohan the incomplete Battleship Paris, on which construction had been stopped during and after the Greater Napolean fiasco. Steaming to New Beleriand under her own makeshift power, the vessel's engines, boilers, and weapons were all redesigned and the ship rebuilt during 1901 and 1902. She has been reclassified as a "Battle Cruiser" due to her speed, range, firepower, and reportedly her purpose in the Fleet of the Mark...as a very heavy scout/anti-raider ship. According to some, any future "battle cruisers" will be named for famous horses, due to their power and speed. This ship's final name will be Arcadia after the black horse of kings.

The ships engines were to be Swiss built steam turbines in an effort to increase the ship's speed, and was to have Confederate built oil fired boilers introduced as an experiment to increase the ship's range and cruising speed.

In addiiton to this the incomplete battleship France was lost at sea on the way to the breakers in December of 1901. The vessel was found by the Kingdom of Rohan in May of 1902 and claimed as salvage.  This vessel was renamed Shadowfax after the horse of Theoden King.

Completed late in 1903, these two impressive vessels received change after change in their designs. By the middle of 1903 it was decided they would get a home-built steam turbine rather than the planned Swiss model. However plans for an oil fired boiler system where scrapped. These two vessels are, in 1904, probably the most powerful ships in the water. They are also the first single caliber "all big gun" ships in the world (that I can tell). With their 20 knots of speed and their ten 12" guns, the Arcadias are classed as a sort of battleship-cruiser mix. Armed and armored like a battleship, but as fast as a cruiser (or at least a Rohirrim cruiser) these two ships will be on the charge should Rohan have to go to war again.

The Legend of the Arcadia continues.

Freawine class Battleship of the Mark of 1902 is the first ship of Rohan to mount the new 14 inch guns and be built from the keel up with superimposed turrets. Using a home built 23,000 shp turbine engine, the Freawines are faster than their 12 inch gun predecessors.  Mounting 8 of the new 14" guns these are among the most powerfull ships afloat.

After a lengthly design process starting around 1900, the Helm Hammerhand-class Arcadias of the Mark are the second all big gun battleships built by Rohan from the keel up.  (not counting the old coastal battleships)  Both ships were layed down together rather than one after the other as has been Rohirrim practice for about a quarter of a century.  This is in responce to larger numbers of serious threatening warships in the Pacific Ocean and to keep the Fleet of the Mark well suited to deal with threats at one time rather than piecemeal with a new battleship coming out every two years now rather than every year.  Instead the Mark will have two battleships finished together every few years along wth a battlecruiser finished every year to keep pace with the large number of countries building war fleet across the seas.

Designed to use the new triple 14 inch gun turrets, the Aragorn-class will be a ship laid down before the previous class is completed.  Her succesor will likely have all triple turrets rather than the twin-triple arrangement.

Designed to follow the Aragorn-class battleships, these two Aldor-class vessels are designed with four triple 14" turrets and will have Fire Control installed from the keel up (for Samwise, Aldor will require a minor refit after six months of construction)).  While this design continues to use the older engine design, the reliable engines and no requests for any additional speed form the Marshals of the Mark have left the older and slightly cheaper design win out over the new engines.  The 1913 battleship will likely be a repeat of this design with the newer engines and fire control as standard.

This is an inbetween design.  The new 15.5" cannons will not be ready for the 1915 designs, so they will wait until the 1917 design.  However the Mark still wants to lay down two battleships before 1917.  Therefore the Mark has decided to invest in two large battleships designed as flagships from the start.  They also have longer range than previous battleships of the Mark.  Armed with the newest 14" guns in five turrets (2 twins and 3 triples), it will have the largest broadside in the fleet until the 15.5" guns are ready.  Both will be purchased in late 1914, though only one can be laid down due to a limited number of docks.  The second will be laid down as soon as a dock is cleared or enlarged to allow it to be laid down.

(These vessels were scrapped on the slips in favor of the much larger and more capable Asfaloth-class Fast Battleship.)

#11
Laid down in 1905, this class represented the state of the art for Gran Colombian capital ship architecture at the time.  It was acknowledged that they were lacking in comparison to several foreign designs, but were considered necessary nonetheless due to the long hiatus in Gran Colombian capital ship construction before this.

A distinct feature of the type - other than the additional turret - is the greater range, higher freeboard, and raised forecastle.  These features are intended to allow for effective deploy outside the Caribbean and east-central Pacific, in line with Gran Colombia's renewed interest in world affairs.

This vessel was sold to Rohan in 1917 and renamed Brandywine.  She is to serve with the Arcadia and remaining Pre-Arcadia's.
