Battleships:

All these battleships are built with Harvey-Nickel Steel until 1901.

The Battleships of the Rohirrim are named after Kings of Rohan.

The first of Rohan's battleships to be built with modern 11 inch guns and the last to be built with only single mount turrets, these ships were sold to California in 1897 to help pay for the Eomer-class battleships. Went though a major refit in 1892 but the guns were not improved, just the engine and the ship's range and storage abilities.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the introduction of 12 inch guns into the Rohirrim's inventory, the Navy decided to try a new style of armament to get more firepower out of a ship. Using a single twin turret forward and casemates fore and aft, it was hoped to get more range and speed out of these vessels and get a marked improvement in firepower over the Folcwine-class battleships (which were likely not in service when this ship was planned). As before, the Rohirrim made two ships in the class.

These ships were scrapped to provide materials for the Helm Hammerhand and various cruisers during the War for New Beleriand.

After the completion of the Folcwine-class it was decided to add turrets to the arrangement, yet keep some of the Frealaf Hildeson-class use of casemates to increase heavier firepower. The aft turret could not be maintianed in this design, but it was hoped to place it back with the 1889 model. With the addition of turreted secondaries, the Rohirrim were able to get 8 cruiser guns onto a battleship hull. However the loss of the 6 inch guns in favor of the 9 inch might not work as expected, though the 3 inch and 0.75" machine guns were retained.

A refit gave these two ships a renewed lease on life during and after the War for New Beleriand. Helm Hammerhand was crippled during the war an may be scrapped following the war.

Armored Cruisers:

All ships are using Harvey-Nickel steel armor.

Rohirrim Armored Cruisers are named after ruling ancient Stewards of Gondor.

Built along with the first twin turreted, barbetted battleships of the Mark, the Rohirrim have a tradition of using 9 inch rifles on there old ironclads in addition to the larger smoothbores. The 9 inch gun was the standard on Rohirrim battleships until the 11 inch and 12 inch rifles were developed.

Protected Cruisers and Sloops

These are the Sloops of the Rohirrim....the unprotected cruisers. This particular class was build in the colony of New Beleriand. These ships tend to perform coastal patrols and customs duties in recent years around Rohan's main ports.

These ships are named after rivers.

These ships were scrapped due to poor maintenance on them during the Anahuac War.

More Battleships:

Finding what they felt was a good mix of firepower, the Rohirrim stuck to this particular class for four ships instead of the typical two vessels. The slight improvement in engine preformance helped a little with that choice.  Aging, they are slated to be placed in reserve in the near future if not refitted.

These vessels have Harvey-Nickel Steel Armor.

#5
Torpedo Craft of the Mark:

Rohan's first torpedo boat was laid down in large numbers. With three fixed 14 inch tubes above water, the intension was that the two forward tubes would be used on the approach and the aft tube as one turned way and watched to see which way the enemy vessel turned to avoid the first set of torpedoes. 21 of this type were built.

These boats will likely be retired in the near future,

Torpedo Vessels are named after Heros of the Mark. (over 8000 years of names)

Combat Cruisers of the Mark:

Rohan developed a different kind of Armored Cruiser in 1889 to use the 11 inch gun and 9 inch guns together. This "Combat Cruiser" was designed to be faster and have a heavier punch than the other armored cruisers of the era. However these ships paid for it my having few heavy and medium guns. However the 9 inch secondaries were placed on top of the 11 inch turret. While this seemed like a good idea at the time, it later turned out to be a problem with the ammuniton handling and over crowding of the turrets and magazines in the forward part of the ship. However the designers had made such a good impression that six of these ships were ordered. Only three were finished as designed, the fourth was rebuilt into a radically different design. The fifth and sixth were reordered as a different class in late 1890.

Combat Cruisers are named after kings of Arnor and Gondor.

Reclassifed as Dwarven Battleships in 1905.

Elendur is a one off class. The fourth ship of the Tarondor-class originally. Her "secondary" turret was removed from the design and casemate 9 inch guns were placed on the hull along with two additional 6 inch guns. The ship's range and armor was reduced to allow for the speed and firepower to remain on the previous classes hull.

Sold before being reclassified as a Dwarven Battleship in 1905.

With the introduction of the 4.5 inch quick fire cannons, the Combat Cruiser became a better cruiser. The Rohirrim were still trying to get too much firepower into there cruisers. However, this was the last years of Rohan ordering two Armored or Combat Cruisers in a year, as the cruisers and battleships were getting too big for the economy to handle.

Reclassified as Dwarven Battleships in 1905.
