Well I can't take the blame for the continental shelf looking that way :D

If we are going to try to keep some of the relationship going in story, Middle Earth being in the Indian Ocean doesn't quite work right (unless it's flipped upside down maybe).  Taking just the primary continent and making it part of Australia on the other hand....

NS will not have all of Australia, give half to the muslims and stick a large lake in the middle! (something to give me a reason to build lake battleships!) Also NS would have Taiwan (but not Hainan), maybe Hong Kong, and the rest of New Guinea and the Moluccas (but not Celebes)

FOr Middle earth how about again making it smaller and eliminating some islands and moving it to somewhere in the South Pacific between DKB and SA. Where it is right now it places some serious dents in my NS plans! But the Australian location looks interesting.

Got me...we'll work on it.  I don't want to change the scale of ME as that would make calculating distance difficult (as I have working maps for it as it is now).

Maybe if I invert Middle Earth and place in the Southern Hemisphere?

The "Sea of Rhun"...that larger "lake" in ME-Australia is roughly 200 miles by 200 miles in size.  The smaller one, the "Sea of Nurnen" is 150 miles by 75 miles.

Hmm Zealandia looks alot like the middle island in ME, twisting ME 90 degrees and placing it next to Zealandia... Wonder how Swampy will react to having another powerful neighbor!

Leaving just the main ME island and moving it a bit south would also work. NS could be moved slightly NE which would leave me a strait shot at Alaska.

Swampy one nit pick, the HRE would probably have Italy (without Sicily) and Switzerland.

With the Sahara Inland Sea perhaps we could add Carthage?

Hm, I made the following map. Middle Earth was inverted, but it is without the rest of the smaller continents. I object to a HRE/German Empire being too powerful at start if we are a bit consistent. Also similar objections to GB+Canada/new England, it just does not let enough possible player countries in America.

My changes with Egypt, Byzantium, some optional nations in NA, Chimu/Inca in South America (enlarged a bit on GC's expense), a strong Argentina, baltoc confed, Kiev, Muscovy separate, Italy having Tunis and Tripoli. The Med-Red Sea connection is through the Negev desert.
Brazil here is a no-man's land. overclaimed by its neighbors, filled with rubber plantations worked with slave labor. Orange is undecided.

Based on the Swiss requests and some alterations to the timeline, plus adding some of Swamphen's national adjustments, but not yet cutting continents aside from Australia.

This map includes recent inroads into Brazil by Brandenburg and Hapsburg forces, Swiss "liberation" of the northern Philippiness only, Japan, and other things.

EDIT:  Didn't see the new map P3D nor the requests...If we work with Swamphens map mixed with mine plus player/admin/mod alteration we should come to the final product in a week or so.  Then we can spend the rest of the time to either March 15 or if we really need time to sort stuff out get new player, April 1st (roughly) for a new start in 1906.

Modified to fit Swamphen's map with adjustments for fun.

Ithreko, that's becoming a monster.

Toned down version With less unknowns and more knowns.

Easy way to messure things...one pixel is 35 square miles.

P3D

That won't work unfortunately. This map projection is a bastard of all, neither true bearing, nor true area. The world is spherical, and that does have some serious consequences, and linear distances on the projection are usually meaningless.

Well if the atlas is corrected enough for that latitude (north or south of the equator) the distances given in said atlas should remain in relations to the other continents.

Or it can be shifted to roughly centered as a whole as it was before the shifts north or inverted south.  That should reduce the amount of distortion found on a map of a sphere.

I'm also figuring that someone here will be able to figure out the relations well enough given a week or so.

P3D

This equirectangular projection only gives good distance readings at the equator. If you want to calculate distances, you need to make some line integration, as your correction is dependent on latitude. And straight lines in this projection won't represent shortest routes either. I do not see any real reasons to increase the size of this Earth.

Well what about this?  Earth sized projection.

I could rotate Middle Earth 90 degrees (as it seems all the charges at dawn from what is suppose to be the East seem to come from the North).  I'd rather have the other two continents as well for additional new player room.

No Hawaii/Numenor in this Pacific.

Colored map of above.

Similar map but with second continent west of main continent.  (third continent was thought of but abandoned unless someone else can find a place for it.  It fits but if set at the originally intended location it would replace New Guinea and the Philippines and might crowd Borneo.  The other location was between South America and Africa with the South Africa in the pocket if the continent was turned 90 degrees.).
