Entries are hereby solicited for the second African Trophy Race, sponsored by the Brandenburg Explorer's Guild and the Brandenburgian Automotive Club.

The race will start on 15 March 1907. The course is the same as in the 1904 race, 1100 kilometers starting in Narobi with the finish line in Dar-es-Salaam.

Daimler of Brandenburg and Benz of Ost Afrika have already announced entries, a pair of Daimler Mercedes under the ownership of Baron von Jellinek and a new model of Benz driven by the company founder himself. Opel of Brandenburg has also stated its intent to enter.

The race is totally free of political influence and restrictions, entries will be accepted from all nations and the drivers and team members will be accorded all diplomatic courtesy.

Desertfox

Same entries as last year, Baron Munchausen in his Spyker, and the Prince in his Itala. Hopefully the Baron can find his way to the finish line this time.

Are trucks around at this time?

Well, the real difference between a 'truck' and a 'touring car' at this point is the fact that a 'truck' has a flat bed of wooden planks instead of a rear body. ;) The reason that both my entries are trucks is that the CSA is still not really that industrialized, and lots of people have things they need to have hauled around (farm goods, fire wood, workers, etc) that just won't fit in a touring car's body. Also, four wheel drive is pretty much standard because they are going to be driving a lot of undeveloped roads here in the CSA. I mean, you can't really afford to put down cobblestones all the way from Austin to El Paso to Phoenix. ;D

Calling 4WD "standard" is kind of a stretch, as historically there were a total of around ten (10) 4wd vehicles existing in the world at his time...
4wd is very exprimental technology.

It's not TOO much of a stretch, though, given my tech capabilities. I'm at roughly WWI levels, and there were 20,000 produced during WWI for the US and British by only a single US car maker.

The thing is most automobiles were either owned by 1.) businesses, 2.) wealthy enthusiasts or 3.) the military at this time. Most common people didn't own cars at all in 1905... still not enough discretionary income.

Both my teams are sponsored by the C.S. Army in one way or another.
The Moon Motors truck is crewed by soldiers who are 'on leave,' and the light truck is privately owned by a wealthy general who is trying to convince the Army to buy them as people-movers.

The Tatra truck is also military backed.
Skoda and Steyer are civilian, and 4x2 :)

I dont think you need 4x4. Ive lived in Southern Arizona most of my life and the terrain is pretty good, dirt roads is all you need (and AC).

BTW In 1907 4 cars drove all the way from Peking to Paris, none of them was 4x4.

Borys you sure there are 10 ton trucks around at this time? You need pretty big engines for those, engines which dont exists right now.

40-50HP is enough. That truck is SLOW. But the Heer wants to see it finish the race. Not win it.
