Chuvosa, in its splendour...

If folks want to mark up their territory with settlement/port/name stuff, I can touch up the original similarly.

Island names and descriptions:
- bottom left - Iberian - Bom Leite
- bottom centre - Italian - Nuovo Lipari
- bottom right - Oranje - the largest island is called Gulden
- top left - Baltikum - Ventosa and Saco
- top centre and right - Nederlanden - Flyssen group - Bruma, Neblosa, Plana

The islands are volcanic, heavily eroded. Like the Azores. It rains here a lot.
Tourist highlights:
- the Saco is a gigantic caldera and offers one of the best secluded harbours in the world. The problem is the deep and rocky bottom - anchorages are few, and many ships lose their anchors;
- Plana is the oldest island and has been eroded almost flat. It has a Danish or Dutch feel to it - not higher than 30 meters above sea level, with neat little villages and clean cows, it can feed the rest of the archipelago on its own;
NEDS - Not Enough Deck Space for all those guns and torpedos;
Bambi must DIE!

Just curious, what sort of populations does these islands have?
Considering the large size of the islands, and that the climate is tropical and fertile a sizable population seems reasonable.
Rougly calculating the size of the Dutch islands to a size of between 1600 and 6000km2 it would give a population of between 150-200k if using St Helenas density as a guidline.

Ahoj!
Very rocky - largest population is that of Plana - 30,000. Other large islands are in the 10-15,000 range.
Think Faroe.
Total populations are in the tens of thousands, just below the radar of the HY budget :)

Individual groups, in 1910:
Flyssen - 60,000
Baltikum - 30,000
Bom Leite - 20,000
Nuovo Lipari - 17,500
Gulden - 15,000

Chuvosa Archipelago

Ventosa renamed to Tågeøen e.g Mist island
Saco renamed to Sludøen(Sleet island)

Borys

Ahoj!
I KNEW you had posted these new names somewhere, but for the love of me I didn't remeber where.
:)
A suggestion for an "umbrela" (pun intended) name for your section of the Rainy Islands?

Korpen - with 100 more years to breed, they will triple in number :)

Sparsely populated islands with a rather nice and fertile climate as well as fertile soil? And a long way from carrying capacity, I suspect a trebling the population in 20 years (5,5% yearly growth)
Encouraging immigrants and importing labour should be a piece of cake. :)

Btw, who own St: Helena?

Interesting that Gulden is the most densely populated island.

Ahoj!
I think that St. Helena was absorbed into the Chuvosa Islands.
If it wasn't - let's make it Normann.

As far as I can see,it seems the whole archipelago is laying rigth in the mudlle of the Benguela-Stream,which is a cold current coming from the Antarctica.
So high land temperature and cold sea temperature gives a lot of fog and mist,but on the other hand limited rain.

The Rock Doctor

I'll make those changes to the Baltic names.  If anybody else wants something added/changed - names, communities, etc - let me know and I'll post a revision tomorrow.

Borys

Ahoj!
Interesting idea - Namib like conditions?

Groan ...
I always went by the detailed map. Now I finally took a good look at the Mapa Mundi ... Plana looks the size of Cyrpus, if not larger.

Now, if you guys want:
Individual groups, in 1910:
Flyssen - 600,000 - 0,5IC (transfered from Nederlanden)
Baltikum - 300,000
Bom Leite - 200,000
Nuovo Lipari - 170,000
Gulden - 150,000

NEDS - Not Enough Deck Space for all those guns and torpedos;

Borys

OK - there can be two names for individual islands, original Portugues name and the current one.
The bottom right corner now belongs to the DKB. That's Ultima vel Sint Anzelm.

That was my reaction as well when i looked at the scale of the map... :)

Already implemented :)
This place really got interesting and inspiring now, six major and minor power holding territory within spitting distance of each other, but at the same time very isolated from the rest of the world. ;D

I will try and write up some history for the Dutch islands and mark out cities and important localisations as soon as possible.

And a question for the Rock doctor; is there likely to be any mineral recourses on the islands?
I am living with the impression that volcanic islands generally are poor in minerals suitable for mining (or granite for that matter).
