Wars..or Skirmishes and Duels

Foxy once suggested we should have "skirmishes" that allowed us to test our designs without risking them.

This past year, I have not even had the time to oversee any conflicts.
The past 4 years were busy, and by time we got to this year I was fairly overloaded.
I have slowly been 'catching up' on my things to do, and am making progress.

Looking ahead, starting in October, I think I will have enough spare time
that if there is an N7 War, I can game it out again.

I think I can also offer to run SeeKrieg for small battles.
A skirmish between a cruiser division, a duel between battle cruisers,
the defense of a merchant convoy, etc.

Much of the preparation time for a battle is dependent on the number of different ship classes and gun types. Each needs it's own data.  Tracking 8 ships of 1 class is much much easier and quicker than four ships of four classes.

Anyhow I thought I would bring up the idea for discussion.

Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

A world war in 1940 would be an apotheosis of Navalism.
Difficult to make 2 balanced alliances that would make war on each other.
An even more complicated management of hundreds of ships...

=> Small fake naval wars are more manageable.

The nightmare of the Aztec Parthian Vilnius alliance vs the Roman Byzantine Iberian axis......

Shh, we don't talk about the Mojave Project

I was thinking more like "Convoy raid" or "n7 version of Savo Island".
Not "The Horde Invade while everyone's involved in Maya".

Oh that would be one hellacious fight, with Roman and Aztec fighters and carriers mixing it up over the Bahamas and Caicos.  It'd be like a Mega-Santa Cruz.

One thing that I did notice as a somewhat funny aside.......given the tech limits on the minor NPCs......as it stands right now, the Sultanate's primary bomber aircraft is the Blenheim (or equivalent)......and its cruise speed is greater than the top speed of the fastest aircraft that the Mayans could be running....the P12 Peashooter.  The top Aztec fighter can just about double the Mayan fighter in a dive.

Provided I continue at the current rate of research for aircraft, the first Mayan monoplane fighter, which will come in a couple of years and basically be a Polikarpov I-16......will make its first patrol along the border and get buzzed by a Spitfire Mk XII with the Griffon engine.  Poor Mayan pilot with his new hotness all-metal monoplane.........

...which is why when the momentary Iberian player announced he wanted to be the aircraft and submarine arms exporter, I took that to heart. It's not all their aircraft, but otherwise NPCs would be hopelessly behind.

I suppose right now Parthia could probably try to horn in on that export market. I'm probably equivalent, if not slightly ahead of Iberia.

I would concur on a limited number of aircraft being sold.  Like an AP or two.  Ultimately they'd be carefully husbanded as they're a precious resource.

So for instance the Mayans mostly have P12 equivalent fighters.  But they have a couple of squadrons of imported Me109s that they would use to try to stop bombers because their indigenous planes simply can't.

Like the Russian MIG15 in Korea.
