I will wait for the list of finalized rules to move forward.

sorry, put my time into reworking my armored carries.
Research repost will have to wait.

I really don't remember those armored box carrier rules, guessing we borrowed them from elsewhere.
Not keen on them, but close to the way I was doing it weight wise. So not unworkable.

Consolidated in one list.
Reasons omitted as redundant.

Research Rule Proposals v2

Naval Artillery
1938 : improved shell design, for +20% ME for >=311mm

Cruiser Architecture
1932:  Cruisers under 6000 tons may have composite hull strength >=0.75, Cruisers under 10,000 tons may have composite hull strength >=0.9, Cruisers may have turrets, "Small Transom" available for all ships.

Capital Ship Architecture:
1941: Advanced DP Secondary batteries, RPC, Automatic guns under 211mm, lighter guns more reliable

Aviation Ship Design.

Section 1.
Change from the current text, based on the 1933 or earlier aircraft to one showing both.

Category
1.  Determine Maximum Air Group by Area
Change to have this table :
1933 or prior Aircraft   1934 onwards Aircraft
Category            (15% less capacity)
Seaplane Carrier      Waterplane /120      Waterplane /140
Double Hanger      Waterplane /55      Waterplane /55
Single Hanger      Waterplane /65      Waterplane /65

Aircraft/Seaplane Carrier Architecture:

1938: Improved Anti-Ship Dive Bombs, Improved deck parks (+15% AG) and hanger ventilation.
Rapid Consecutive Takeoffs with no more than 75% of the airgroup, Carriers can be built to cruiser hull standards.

Destroyer Architecture
1924 : quintuple tubes, 2,500t,  MTB G, H (same)
1928 : MTB I, J, K
1932 :  "Large" Transom for Destroyer Architecture.

Mine Warfare
1938 : New magnetic & acoustic mine triggers. Degaussing magnetic inductors available for ships. Port degaussing for all ships, aerial degaussing for shallows.  Aerial Minelaying.

1943 : Aerial minelaying of magnetic, pressure & acoustic mines.

Night Fighting & Remote Sensing Devices:
1942: Airborne radars. Limited Night blindfire Fire control RADAR, prox fuses 100mm+

Reason : This adds the 100mm prox fuses. Currently they are tied to the USN's 5" and 3", but the reality is they steadily got smaller, so sometime between the two they should have fit 4".

Signals/Intelligence
1933 :  Extended range naval radios : Reliable Short & Medium range radios <300nm, HF long range unreliable,  dependent on mast height 1000/700/500nm.  Talk Between Ships and Two-way vehicle radios.

1941 : Cryptographic Computers. Enhanced Codebreaking.

The Technology, Aviation Ship and Naval Gun Research portions of the rules have been updated.
A new Naval Gun Calculator reflecting the 1938 ME has been attached.
With the 1938 tech, a USN 16"/50 will have a MV of 735mps, compared to the historical 737mps.
Which seeems close enough.

Thanks for doing that.

I remain confused that the waterplane area calculations, in the table for section 1, only change for seaplane carriers.  Conventional carriers remain WP/55 or WP/65 regardless of what the aircraft tech is.

The problem would seem to be I screwed up.
The Table does not show the proposed reduction for WP area at all. It's meant to be 15%.
The Aircraft go up in weight by that much, so the airgroup capacity should drop by that much. All trying to match historical declines.
I'll circle back to this.

Ok, so it looks like the numbers were supposed to come from here :
Quote1.  Determine Maximum Air Group by Area

Using the "Waterplane area" in "Square meters" of the Hull Tab.

=waterplane /120 (seaplane carrier)

=waterplane/65 (1 hanger),  /77 for 1934 aircraft and later

(edit /l note for my sim of HMS Colossus, I got 79.1 , so quite close.  For that vessel the deck park increased space 15% from 41 to 48)

=waterplane/55 (2 hanger),  /65 for 1934 aircraft and later

https://www.navalism.org/index.php/topic,8065.0.html

That would make the table ...corrected...look like this :
1933 or prior Aircraft   1934 onwards Aircraft
Category            (15% less capacity)
Seaplane Carrier      Waterplane /120      Waterplane /140
Double Hanger      Waterplane /55      Waterplane /65
Single Hanger      Waterplane /65      Waterplane /77
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

The Rock Doctor

You've got double hanger values reversed but otherwise okay.

Jefgte

From rules:
Quote...Conversions
Conversions are inherently inefficient. Multiply required weights by 1.5.

1. ok fixed table.
2. yes, you can either take an existing/building cruiser and convert them with the penalty, or lay a fresh keel for no penalty.

One thought I had that's still pretty far out so easy to adjust:

The Des Moines and a few other ships were mid-40s ships that had automatic 6 and 8 inch guns.  I note that the 1946 Capital Ship tech allows for automatic secondary guns.  I might request a small edit to account for the difference between an automatic 75mm or 120mm gun, and an automatic 155mm-203mm gun.

Proposal:

Capital Ship Arch
1942:  Automatic Secondary Guns in Mounts/M&H <= 110mm

This would account for autoloading guns of the mid-late WW2 era, including the automatic 3in AA gun.

Cruiser Arch
1944:  Automatic Guns in Turrets <= 210mm

This would account for the late 1940s ships with turreted automatic guns in the 6-8in range, and would allow for any automatic gun to be developed in a full barbette/turret arrangement.

Hmm looks like I screwed up - happens more than I like .

This was supposed to address that issue.
But I do not seem to have updated the Tech thread to reflect it.

Does it suffice?
