The last Japanese airman to participate in the attack on Pearl Harbor died on August 29, 2024 at the age of 106. Yoshioka Masamitsu was a torpedo observer on a Nakajima B5N2 from the aircraft carrier SŌRYŪ.

(He was on shore leave during the Midway Battle.)

Positively wild that any member of the 1941 Kido Butai air component survived the war, much less lived to 2024.

Indeed extraordinary that he survived the war, and managed to live to such an age.
I imagine he had quite a lot of tales to tell.

I've only met (that I know) one fellow who was at Pearl Harbor, but he was about 10 at the time and just saw it happen.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
