The sealift ships Borys and ledeper have performed stirling work in safely moving small craft around the Atlantic Ocean but the class is almost unarmed and takes forever to travel to southern hemisphere and back.

The new sealift ship Ithekro would have the same basic function, but is designed for a much higher cruise speed and longer range, allowing it to service the Union's South Erican colonies in particular.  It's also been provided with a proper sternchaser for self-defence, and has incrementally more actual payload - 1,150 t rather than 1,000 t, and up to 70 metres of usable deck length.  And a wider deck!

Why is there conning tower armor?  Hell if I know.  Must have toggled something weird.  The final product will save that weight for weight reserve instead.

One unit is projected and would be built to mercantile standards.

The aircraft carrier Wieloryba ("Cetus/Whale") will be laid down in 2/1935 for a couple of functions:

-Primarily to serve as a new, purpose-built training carrier with an adequately sized flight deck and adequate aircraft capacity;
-To develop possible small/slow trade protection doctrine in conjunction with the Union's extensive sloop and patrol forces;
-To operate as an aircraft transport from time to time.

The desire for an inexpensive hull can be seen in the minimal protection - a box over the machinery and magazines.  The conning tower is mainly there for protection against deck-handling accidents.

The ship is reasonably armed for self-defence, and its machinery and bunkerage are absolutely good for operating with Union patrol forces or, I suppose, slower capital units.  Basic flag facilities are provided for, in case she operates as command ship of an escort group or such, or those facilities might be taken over for training usage in addition to the dedicated classroom space already built in.

If embarked, the airgroup would likely be a composite unit of 8 fighters and 8 scout-bombers.  In a training role, most of these would be replaced by the faithful Kadet training aircraft for fledgling aviators.

The flight deck is serviced by two elevators with a single hanger between them - the hanger itself is almost exactly the length of a Bogue's hanger, which makes sense since the two ships have similar dimensions.  Sources indicate there were issues getting planes on and/or off Bogue's elevators because of their positions near the ends of the ship but I haven't found a lot of information detailing why.  Maybe it'll show up as an issue when this ship enters service.

An overhanging rear flight deck was contemplated, but the desire to have the ship fit inside the less expensive/more common 150mm drydocks scattered around Union territories argued against this.  She is, as the kids say, thicc.  Or chonky.  Kids say that too.

Once in service at the beginning of 1937, the tiny aircraft carrier Labedz will be removed from service.  I haven't quite decided what I'm doing with her.

Not in Parthia they don't !
Those Wilno kids..yikes, the Mouths on them.

My equivalent is the 'Seabird' which should have completed 1931. It's 1/3 larger, so not as economical as a training carrier.  I suppose I could build more, but I seem to come up with more uses for BP than I will ever have BP for.

The F-class torpedo-boats posted two or three pages back - ~2,500t light, 3x2 130mm DP, etc.  I'll probably sprinkle them around the battleline and armored cruiser screens for a bit of a punch.

The Rock Doctor

Refit of the Vellamo-class tugs is the usual matter of upgrading the armament, adding a few depth charges, and fitting hydrophones and basic night-fighting gear.  The ship appears to be built within mercantile standards, so that limits what I can do with the armament.

Cost per unit is $0.055/0.042 BP

The S-class torpedo-boats also get a refit with new armament.  The design is very tight - if I want to add any kind of radar or additional AA/ASW, I will have to yank something out.  There is 0 weight reserve after this.

Cost is $0.130/0.076 BP per unit.

The Rock Doctor

Refit for the Encke-class battleships.

The secondary 130mm battery is upgraded to DP.  The aft-half of the 100mm battery is removed; the forward half of that battery is retained for starshell-shooting.  A bunch of 50mm and 15mm get added, including 50mm mounts atop B and C turrets.

A cross-deck catapult is fitted between the funnels, and two single-plane hangers are added on either side of the aft funnel (where those discarded 100mm guns were).  Some of those new 50mm go on top of the hangers.

New fire control and a new capital-ship huelsmeyer device are added.

Cost is $1.173 and 0.841 BP per unit.

The Rock Doctor

After considerable thought on the subject, the Union Navy has decided to lay down two new Korsarz of the Sowy (Owl) class.

Nearly twenty years has elapsed since the Rybolow class was built.  This new class benefits from newer, lighter machinery; a transom stern; improved welding and construction techniques; and a more mature sense of what should be included in the package.

The type remains capable of operating as an MTB carrier or a fast transport.  It also adds more capability as a blockade-runner with dedicated wet and dry stores and greater deck cargo capacity if the small craft are landed.

Armament includes a heavier battery, and this will be one of the first Union classes to field the twin 25mm machine-gun in place of the 15mm machine gun.  A Huelsmeyer device and an enhanced hydrophone package have been added to improve the ship's awareness of its environment.

Sowy will replace the prototype korsarz, Orzel.  A second unit will take the place of a hypothetical rebuild of the tiny carrier Labedz.  You'll recall Labedz was based on the Rybolow class korsarz and there was a notion to convert her from carrier to korsarz once replaced by a dedicated training carrier.  That notion is no longer favored given how much improved the Sowy class will be in comparison.

Alright so I need to shrink it down to fit a 150m dock. You get the idea.

Kaiser Kirk

Quote from: The Rock Doctor on January 01, 2025, 03:35:36 PMThe S-class torpedo-boats also get a refit with new armament.  The design is very tight - if I want to add any kind of radar or additional AA/ASW, I will have to yank something out.  There is 0 weight reserve after this.

A common problem with Destroyer designs.
My conceptual doctrine has my destroyers either operating from littoral waters or working in conjunction with larger fleet units as escorts/strike assets. But given that, there was no particular reason that they would need LR Radio. Coincidentally that quite helps tonnage wise.

We all have our flavor elements, everyso often I feel it is required of me to restate when they are, separate star-shell guns falling in that.

Huh? What idea?

Interesting ship. I've been toying with the idea of replacing the Mus-sags in some manner,
and so perhaps I will emulate this.
