Greetings all,

My slow updating of Parthia's encyclopedia has entered the final stretch.

After that I can turn back to more 'Mod' stuff as we get deeper into Oct - Nov and Dec.
The question is...whats the priority ?

* Open a rules workshop and see if there's anything folks think are broken, or not working right ?

* Update the Norse/Iberians

* Move NPC designs to their encyclopedias, start new NPC design threads ?

* Start 'Sandbox' wars to test our ships/squadrons ?

I don't know if anything's really broken - I've probably kvetched about stuff previously, of course.

It might be prudent to see if we need to add any additional tech for the early thirties, since we're just about there.

Updating the neighbours would be useful, but I have to admit I feel like we're not going to get new players at this point.

-I keep looking on the new player front.  Justin/Khryses wanted to, he just had too many commitments to really be able to commit the time to do it right.

-I don't think we necessarily need to do a rules workshop, I think there are one or two things, but they're pretty minor.  For instance, refitting a DD....if you do nothing but misc weight changes and/or deck gun changes.....and for some reason Springsharp recalculates the percentage that may have been like 50.2% engines to 49.9% engines.....it's allowed.  No making APDs or anything, but if you pull a torpedo mount to put on Sonar and some night fighting equipment and springsharp loses its mind for no reason it's not held against you.

-We probably need to do some developmental work on the NPCs.  At least catalog what we currently have.

-As for updating/designing for the NPCs, I think that if someone wants to do some sandbox stuff, some advance warning so we can do some design competition within that nation's idiom would be fun.

* Both Tac and Rocky have indicated they keep trying, love to get some new players. Part of that will be to not overwhelm them with 'things to do', so I'd like to get the Norse/Iberian turns up to date.  I can - for now- just do "Cruiser-N 6000t" as place holders in the build and they can be figured out over time.

* Folks are welcome to tinker with SS and come up with ideas on ways to de-rate DDs while accounting for the various reality bits.
* I may try simming a DD and comparing it to numbers in Friedman's Destroyers to see where the SS/Real differences are. That may help.
I expect there are a large number
* In order to avoid that shifting weight %, I keep adding tons to my 'reserve' in 'void weight' until the ship dips below 0.5, then I take off 1.
That seems to help in future refits as I deplete the reserve and add elsewhere, it's not "new" weight.
With my Babr class, I have 12 tons "reserve" and 50.0% machinery.  If I take off the 12 tons, it's 50.1% machinery. If I put on a 11ton conning tower, it's 50.0% machinery. That will allow me to refit the vessel moving forward.

*I will slowly work to moving the ships previously designed from the Ship Design threads to the NPC encyclopedias.

*Once the PC and NPC bookwork is done we can move to designs competitions.
I'm planning $ for a submittal in parameters, then $ for "winning design".
Ranked choice voting where each lists their top 3 'winners'.

*Sandbox - that was Foxy's idea, I think he wanted an 'out of game' place to have players designs square off. So Wilno could take on Japan if desired. Foxy also floated the idea of other battle moderators, which I'm ok with.  Historically Navies had internal wargames with various rules, its essentially the same.

Most of the ideas I have for this would apply if we didn't have 'Points' for Land and Air warfare.

Perhaps a tech and/or some rules for Merchant conversions...and then we'd need more standard merchant hulls.

Feel free to come up with concepts :)

One rule question.   Given we're well into the battery Era, I'm thinking about running batteries on a class of OPV for ASW work.  To cut engine noise when using more sensitive Hydrophones.  This is for relatively short duration use, like a couple of hours at slow to middle speeds.  I'm thinking 5 percent of machinery weight would be an appropriate tonnage to account for the batteries....and obviously electric drive must be used.....really diesel electric.

Probably a rule category that needs addressing is just "Miscellaneous weight guidance".
Well figuring out that need is part of this threads purpose :)

I've been simply assigning battery weights of 5 or 10 tons, as I just want my sloops to be able to stay there a couple hours.
But when I have time I can rummage in my submarine books and see if any spell out the weight allocations and storage.

Working on a potential Norse player.  He's currently the CSN SecWar in a game I'm umpiring, so he's basically doing the job anyway....he's interested in springsharp (how the conversation started) but intimidated by the learning curve....so I said we could help with the teaching.

No problemo.
He is welcome.
We help all new players.

We can absolutely help.
That also means I'll focus on getting the Norse up to order 'soonest'.
I will probably use "Cruiser-X, 8000t' style notations as placeholders for now.

Iberia is also available of course, but comes with the Malta & Rome obligatory friendships.
Which is likely less interesting, as the Norse have 2 opposing foes go design against.
But yes, folks are happy to help.

No reason those friendships can't end.  Anything could be happening in Iberia these days.

I try to keep true to Snips vision...and while I know I've failed that at times,
missed the boat at times, one of his establishing rules was that Iberia would start
friendly with Rome, and could over gametime become otherwise.

However, as it controls the Gates of Heracles, an unfriendly Iberia needs to evolve in storyline,
not a sudden event.

For a new player that is both easier - a position with powerful friendly powers and not needing to guard it's backyard,
vs the Norse who have two powerful potential adversaries.
