The Mark expresses its assurance that incidents of this nature should be rare and thus thankful that the Kaiser and his family were not harmed.

"Any further details on this attempt on the Kaiser?", President Alizandro asked.

Foreign Affairs Minister Torres nodded.  "Most sources indicate it was the distraught father of a slain DKB sailor.  The local newspapers continue to call for Swiss blood, but that appears to be more on general principle than because they are directly to blame."

"That's good news", Rey mused.  "Very good news.  The war may be unfortunate in some respects, but attempting to harm another head of state...that would be...well, I'm glad the Swiss didn't try to one-up their stunt with the Emperor."

"I took the liberty of sending a brief telegram to the Kaiser, expressing our pleasure at his continued presence on this mortal coil."

"Not with that kind of flowery prose, I hope", Rey replied.

"No", Torres confirmed.

I should note that publically the propaganda folks haven't confirmed or denied Swiss involvement. The better to feed the yellow press...  ;)

Bombarded by Swiss battlecruisers. More damage to P.D. Repelled enemy attack. Can we send this cursed ship elsewhere? Please advise.

early March

The Gutenburgher Printing Press Company was running at capacity, double-shifting day and night. Well known for their work on tracts for the country's various churches and other sects, they had received the largest contract of their history, oddly enough from the Luft-Flotte of the Kreigsmarine...

"So, Doctor," the Kaiser asked, "what is the news?"

Dr. Frederick Physarum looked up from his charts. Kaiser Wilhelm II had suffered a serious injury to his left hand in the previous month's swordfight; as the Brandenburgian Surgeon General, tending royal wounds was part of his portfolio. "I'm afraid, sire, that while you seem to be successfully avoiding infection, there appears to be damage to the nerves in your wrist and palm. While medical discoveries are proceeding at a rapid pace, injuries such as that remain well outside our ability to treat, even for such a distinguished physician as myself, and barring a miraculous recovery, you are unlikely to regain further function then you already have."

The Kaiser scowled at the news; while he still had succifficent use of the hand to perform his official duties without a severe degree of difficulty, the damage to his appearance rankled. He fancied himself as not being an unduly vain man, but a sovereign was expected to be hale and hearty in all respects; a lame hand would be cause for whispers. He would have to think of ways to conceal the damaged appendage; fortunatly grasping a sword's hilt would hide a multitude of evils.

Nevertheless, even the Emperor of the Second German Reich knew better than to talk back to or chastise a member of the medical profession who works on your person. "Thank you, Herr Doktor."

Also useable as birdcage liners, too.  :D

The Confederacy's wishes are much appreciated...
...however this is a bit of convergence with @, so the Kaiser will just have to learn to live with it.

(BTW, cookie to anyone who recognises where the doctor is from.)

The Rock Doctor

No clue where the doctor's from, but it was a good little item.  The question is whether the Kaiser will over-compensate for his lamed hand in other ways...

OoC:
I didn't feel that there would be a miracle take place, since the Kaiser had a bad left arm in real life and this seemed too well-planned to bring that disability into N-verse as to be a coincidence.

I do like this version of the Kaiser's disability than the OTL reason. It's more in keeping with his image of himself.
