And for something completely different and not a refit, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, aka slow general purpose minesweeper and escort.  The MS-28 series is good, this series is a bit better, able to be truly ocean-crossing with technically more range than most of the DDs in the fleet.  Also about 115 tons heavier, but the huge range increase, firepower increase, and the things that make this ship more functional for general purpose patrol duties for months in places like the Pacific or Atlantic are worth it to me.  For some reason the possibility of needing an escort vessel that can go to a nation on the Indian Ocean is now important......

This is also showing my shift to a high-low mix that's based around escort rather than torpedo attack.  OPVs and Destroyer Escorts are in the same vein, able to handle convoy escort duty against submarine, air, and some surface threats like armed merchants or even fend off destroyers.  Freeing up the real Destroyers for fleet screen/scout duty and other things that the big DDs are designed to do.  Because they might need to deal with something bigger than them, they carry 3 heavyweight torpedoes in order to make a credible threat against a larger vessel.

And I did test the idea of a 'modern H-Class' based on my old H-Class destroyers.  They wound up being 33kts and just over 1000t due to the need to have the 50% engine power thing.

There's been a couple of times where I've had the thought that I'm happy with a ship's speed so might as well keep the machinery year unchanged for the next batch.

Haven't done it, though.

I don't  think I need to.  22kts means that it's capable of outrunning most submarines on the surface, and it's capable of catching up to basically any merchant ship shy of a fast ocean liner.  4 x 90mm guns makes her more well armed than anything short of a full-up destroyer, and potentially better armed than some of those.  The Triple Torpedo launcher gives her something to threaten a larger vessel with so they have to take her seriously.  The ASW kit is reasonably substantial, and the diesel engines mean she can cruise for weeks, or accelerate from a slow convoy speed to her top speed on a dime.  Since at this point the aviation threats are Torpedo Bombers, light bombs, and strafing, the small size makes her a hard target for a TB, and if a fighter or light bomber tries her, she's got just enough armor to protect the crew and the explody bits from splinters and bullets.

I wouldn't want to be stationed on the aft deck while crossing the Atlantic but it's a tidy package overall.

Looking at this hypothetical Unicorn-style support carrier as a way to maximize the utility of my carriers over time.

Notes:  3200t is the tonnage noted for a DP on a Seaplane Tender, making this an 'aircraft tender'.  There is a lighter for transporting aircraft, that matches the historical.  And there are cranes for recovering aircraft to the flight deck from pierside etc.  There are enlarged shops aboard, and an improved medical compartment as damaged aircraft may come with damaged people.  A lot of gear for working on the aircraft, and the bulk of the hangar space is dedicated to aircraft repair and storage of crated planes, etc.  Below the waterline there's expanded POL space and magazine space.  While she is a carrier, and has a 20 aircraft air group (1 Fighter Squadron, .5 DB/Fighter Squadron, 2 Patrol Bombers) it's based around self defense as even her only strike asset is 6 dive bombers that can pull double duty as backup fighters.  She's a chunky, slow girl, meant to operate with the fleet train and provide some escort air support for those assets while keeping Carrier Strike Groups full of aircraft and pilots.

And looking at my very ancient landing ships, and considering political implications that ground forces want toys too.....

A modernized Landing Ship for the Seal Warriors, with cranes, spotting floatplanes for scouting purposes, a single 180mm twin mount for fire support of the landing forces, self-defense guns, briefing spaces, etc.  All of the armament is forward, and the briefing spaces are in the main superstructure block forward.  Then there are the cranes and the catapults and floatplanes amidships, and aft is dedicated solely to landing craft operations, with two larger landing barges capable of hauling multiple vehicles or significant numbers of PAX winched up into the notched overhang aft (and able to load directly off of the cargo deck, not a well deck) and more 'normal' sized landing craft for lighter vehicles and personnel (LCVP sized) on the main deck.

Below there is the support for what I tentatively consider an LP of troops (1600 PAX ie a 'Brigade', though the number is more a 'meh' thing and based on an AP/DP combo being 6400t constructed on a ship) and a DP of gear and supplies....6400t in total.

Continuing to mess with the Armored Fleet Carrier.  I do think that this type of carrier is going to prove to be worthwhile for the Caribbean, as historically the Armored Carriers were quite worthwhile in the Med.  The Pacific and Atlantic probably lend more to the max airgroup carrier.

Looking at my colonial ships, I have a good series of small and relatively cheap colonial corvettes patrolling the colonies.  However, Terra del Fuego is a unique environment, with its close association to the Antarctic and the fishing down that way.  The Southern Sea is vicious, and only the best ships can handle it in a storm.  While the Rivers are good colonial ships, ships for regularly pounding through those seas or even breaking ice, they are not.  The Penguin is a good little ship for the job, and will be staying on down there even though her powerplant will need to be replaced along with a general refit, though combat isn't a prime focus in the region.  But with the scrapping of the remaining Toucans, only one of the big cruisers, or Penguin, is capable of operating down in that environment.  So it's time for a new ship, and one heavier with better icebreaking and general facilities.  Also better armed, but that's very much an afterthought that's possible simply because the ship is big enough that armament can simply be slapped on.

* the 20 tons of arrestor equipment is unneeded. That is most definitely included in the classification.
* the torpedo bulkhead- with 1.5m depth & 15mm should not be expected to stop much of anything. Flooding control for a bomb near miss perhaps.
* 1884/65 = 28.9, so 28.   She can't hold 32 planes.

Short and at 25 knots, she'll run into the same limitations my vessels will be facing.
Which I think is entirely reasonable for a bi-plane era design.

I will note that if your battleline ever does need to sprint, and this needs to turn into the wind for launching for 30minutes or so, it could take a very long time to 'catch up' with only 1 knot of overtake.

Armored carrier- may look later.
But yes, I think the Med/Carrib correlation works well.
Frankly, I think the "Early warning systems don't exist so I'm armoring the flight deck" logic works well too.
