Howdy All,
It was my intent to kick off 1925HY2 this weekend,
which happens to be Easter Weekend.

So Two Options
A)  4/15 for HY2, 1925
and 6/2 for HY1, 1926
that is a 1.5 month span
Then aim for a month after that.

B) 4/7 (Today) for HY2, 1925
and 5/5 for HY1, 1926
which is a 1 month span
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

B for sure, even if I am behind on news.

On the other hand the power is back and my basement us drying so that's good news .

I'm fine with B.  I'm normally a hy ahead anyway.

I've got to sit down and decide what construction will start in 26hy2.  Otherwise it'll be yet another schizophrenic mess.  My big cruiser run completes next hy, I want to build subs st a steady rate, I need more destroyers,  and the idea of carriers is now about.   Toss in wanting to get a better battleship cycle instead of just building 2 every 3 to 4 years.

I had planned an even flow of ships,
but the need to build more Land/Deployment points, and  the iterations of tech and particularly gun development, added in with the Sino-Japanese war prompting torpedo paranoia, and paying attention to Jefgte and others...all very much disrupted that plan.

Badly.

In  1926 I need to start researching a whole range of new guns and mounts, as I want to update all my main types.

1926 - I planned to refurbish the BB3 and AC2, BB4 in 1927.
406 and 457 guns are registered but not financed. 380 satisfies me for the moment. Following the shore trials, 1 or 2 x 10 000t flat decks of will be laid down. A new DD class will be started (max 1600t).

QuoteFor me part of the conundrum is Byzantine builds a style very similar to Parthia, while Rome is doing something very different, and Japan is going a 3rd path.
Those seem to be the three most likely PC nations*. So what they've got afloat when I lay down the successors to the Kaliferns will matter.
To Parthia the Kaliferns are heavily armored, and have 16x 365/50, which seems an adequate offensive punch with current ranges, so the 390 and 435s are future options if needed,
but not a lock for the next ships.

Byzantium thinks 20/21kt battleships are a thing of the past. After the 34,000t - 21kts Justinianus, Byzantium is considering faster battleships, certainly 24 kts or 29kts, to accompany the Imbraturia and...the future flat decks.
More speed, less guns, I dont want monsters.

I believe I have 20, 23, 26 and like 29knot designs, with a variety of guns.
Though part of the reason for the various designs is to explore the tradeoffs.

I still expect battleline engagements to be more about defending/attacking slower things (convoys)
or static locations (ports/beacheads) or strategic areas (straits).
The Mayan war, if anything, reinforced that.

Speed needs to have a goal- fast enough to overtake or avoid "X".
Right now the Byzantines are slightly faster, but neither has an useful advantage,
while both can catch merchants or ports.
For detached ships, or not in the battleline, being able to avoid engagement with
superior forces can make a difference. Hence my Stormbringers are 26 knots - fast enough
to be near the cruisers, tough enough to beat BCs.
Yet if Jefgte does put down 29knot battlewagons-... well
that just illustrates another problem that speed is fragile - damage, barnacles and newer
ships all effectively erode it.

Subs and their speeds are effecting things a little by pushing up my cruise and dash speed,
so they can't get and stay ahead of my ships.

Extra guns or larger guns still take a relatively minor amount of displacement,
while more speed takes a huge amount, plus extends the waterline, taking more armor,
and more displacement.

To me one of the interesting things about all this is the British Hood model is attractive,
Big, fast, heavily armored...maybe a flaw in that.... but they were the global superpower
and could build more superdreadnaughts than anyone AND the battlecruisers and fast
battleships. We have to match up against fairly close power levels.

It's all very interesting :)

I want monsters, I just don't want to pay for them.

Kaiser Kirk

I'd like monsters also, a 20x 435mm moving at 30-35 knots and armored to the gills would be  KEWL
Or maybe go with a 6 quad arrangement...24 guns !!

But I think I can afford ...about 1 of those.

But I think I need 8 first line and 4-8 second line battleships (plus fleet around that)
So 1...not enough.

Back to the drawing board !

And I thought I was a lunatic

Looking at an 8 x 400/45 35kt monster.
