Was brought to my attention that the belt for this ship was off.  Adjusted properly.  Also wound up changing the guns to 130mm, and added more 70mm and 30mm guns.

It does appear that the Aztec mode of 24kt battleships is showing its age.  With 9 of these ships either in service or in production, there are sufficient vessels to make battle squadrons out of these classes, and a new model battleship may be looked at.  While aircraft are interesting, including the possibility of torpedo bombing, the gun still reigns supreme.  This design is in the interest of bringing the full capability of the latest in battleship design into the 30kt speed band, where it can chase anything inferior and likely run from any superior force, while being able to select it's optimum range band for its guns.

A competing design put forward notes that the fatal flaw in building a ship that is both fast and has the full armor and gun capability of the current 24kt Sublimis class, is that such a vessel needs to be over 250m, which is the maximum length of the large docks in Veracruz and Acapulco, as well as the drydock in Zealand.  A more conservative design is therefore put forward, sacrificing the rear superfiring 400mm turret to get design efficiency.

Another design put forward, though engineered more with the Pacific in mind, given only the Japanese are likely to build a ship more powerful in local waters on purpose, and this vessel could outrun basically any other Pacific Power's warships.

With the Patronage of the Crown Prince towards the Royal Naval Air Service wing of the Royal Air Force, and advancements in carrier design, the Martinique class are considered good carriers, but with insufficient aircraft to provide the expected heavy force of defensive fighters AND a pair of strike squadrons.  With this in mind, a larger carrier design is put forward to begin construction after the Martiniques.  Other facilities are the addition of flag facilities suitable to operating a cruiser squadron, which the carriers are expected to operate as part of with the fleet screen.

A refreshed design for a fleet replenishment ship, an area the Sultanate feels it is behind in with only 5 fleet replenishment vessels.  Given the size and potential thirst of ships, especially aircraft carrying ships, for fuel and stores, a sizeable fleet replenishment vessel is needed to supplement the venerable Sojourner and Whale classes of replenishment ship.  Intention is to build these in a slow serial production with one being laid down each year starting in 1928.

With the increase in diplomatic traffic with Europe, and the ever-present issues with the Mayans, commercial transit is ill suited to major diplomatic overtures, or most especially a state visit.  With the lack of many large cruisers or capital ships equipped with full fleet HQ facilities due to the austerity measures after the Roman War to maximize construction volume at the cost of 'luxuries'.

To contend with the Mayan threat, it is equipped defensively with anti surface and a relatively large anti-aircraft battery that can be brought into action against smaller surface threats.  Though when not on war footing, the 70mm AA guns, 3 per side in a cluster amidships, are faired over with painted steel fairings.  The 30mm AA guns are stored in lockers, their pintle sockets on the deck the only evidence of their presence until needed.  While an armed floatplane may not be carried, it is provided for completely, as are a pair of touring cars and motor launches.

Otherwise, the ship is very well appointed for Royal or diplomatic purposes, with a side purpose in wartime of functioning hospital facilities which can be expanded into wards encompassing the large conference and ball rooms.  Spaces for up to twenty luxury guests, a hundred staff, and a royal suite are all provided for.  Larger storage for dry goods as well as freezers and refrigeration for food, plus air conditioning for the ship are all provided for.

Equipped with the most modern of diesel-electric drives, the ship is capable of crossing even the entire Pacific at its cruising speed of 20kts, or indeed potentially unrefueled global circumnavigation at a much reduced cruise of 10kts.  Full facilities for maintenance, as well as storage space for parts and enhanced damage control equipment round out the complement.

It certainly would set the gold standard for yachts.

I know we don't necessarily have the same naval laws as the real world, but the presence of a main battery might be problematic if the ship's wartime role is a hospital ship.

TacCovert4

Well, the naval laws are sort of interesting.  LHDs for instance have 600 bed hospitals in them, but they're not hospital ships.  Since protecting the royal personage is considered more important than making the ship immune to taking fire by law, it's a sacrifice that is allowable.  Plus, the Sultanate would have more than enough reason to believe that the Mayans wouldn't respect those conventions in the first place.

I know we don't necessarily have the same naval laws as the real world,

I believe the vague concept was that since we were keeping the broad arc of history intact,
the pre-1910 treaties involving major powers got signed by our major powers.
But yes, guns would compromise the non-combatant aspect, but Tac explains that.

Somewhat impressed with the range of 6000@20, but the fuel % is still under 20.
I was expecting that would be pushed much higher.
The Royal Road is ~2200@22knts, but the changes in engine tech is rather large.
Gosh now I'm getting yacht envy. Maybe I should have refitted one of those old ACRs as
a yacht.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

6000 at 20.  However, when you add in the bonuses for it being a Diesel Electric drivetrain, it's over 12,000 at 20.  Plus, considering its armament is only suited to driving off a DD or maybe a couple of torpedo boats, having the Diesel-Electric bonus of literally standby to flank power on tap at all times means she can accelerate VERY quickly to her top speed and then sustain that top speed for days.

I had thought about equipping her with 180s, but 4 or even 3 of them take her over the 2% threshold, and 2 of them would be insufficient to do more than signal surrender.  Future plans are to replace all guns aboard with an anticipated 80mm DP gun in single or twin mounts.

And a final design for potential lay down in 1928.  Currently the 'Razee' or 'heavy cruiser' fleet of the Sultanate consists of just a pair of Uhlan class, the Pair of Baja Class with their obsolete guns in need of replacement, and the trio of 'light battlecruisers' which are to some degree neither fish nor fowl.  Those 11in gunned ships are devastating when they connect, but are also large and their rate of fire is noted as slower.

Thus a modernized Uhlan class, properly equipped with a quartet of fighter-spotters, a modernized AA suite, and even proper quarters for a squadron commander to make it a flagship of some battlegroups, is proposed.  Additionally, there is a growing contingent within the Navy and the Army's own air arm that are claiming that the new air power will be dominant and render large battleships obsolete.  While it is not an opinion shared by a majority, the experience of Ironclad Bay and the loss of the entire battle fleet in a single afternoon does linger as the promise of more numerous and faster light vessels were able to carry on the war and now have increasingly more firepower and protection.
