I missed those June Battlewagons. Yet another in the 40k+ club and 30 knots. Not a fan of the 6 gun battlecruiser concept though, the BP cost of extending docks may be worth it.

I prefer the Razees to the Lakes.
I had similar design to the Lakes, but with 230mm guns, still didn't like it. The Lakes rely on twin turrets, in that unslightly Nelson trio, but on both ends, but are very expensive at 13000 tons, while still being fairly equally matched in armor and weapons to older and smaller cruisers. Weight of fire may lead to more hits and victory, or not, but for the cost, victory should be more certain.
The Razees are ~40% more expensive, but can clear cruisers as effectively as that BC, but far more economically.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Kirk, the lakes are like the British town class.  4x3.

I agree that the razees are better cruiser killers though.

Razee is a kind of pocket Battle Cruiser, more economical than a fast BB but very expensive vs 6000t & 8000t cruisers.
Lake is enough to defeat 6000t & 8000t cruisers.

Ahh I see the issue - you didn't change from twin to triple mounts.
So the number of mounts is correct but guns/mount wrong.

      12 - 7.09" / 180 mm 50.0 cal guns - 188.38lbs / 85.45kg shells, 200 per gun
Quick firing guns in turret on barbette mounts, 1928 Model
4 x Twin mounts on centreline ends, evenly spread
      2 raised mounts - superfiring

Can Lake beat 2x6000t cruisers that can be built for the same resources?
Can 2x 13000t Lakes beat 3 x 8000t cruisers?

If two Lakes took on three Royal Nissean, I'd wager on my three cruisers.

BUT... if I sent 2 Royal Nissean against the Razee, I'd loose.

The next cruisers I'm looking at drop to 8 guns, trading for +2 knots or +armor,
but 3x8 = 24 guns... so I'd either have more & faster hulls, or more & better armored, and same # guns.

One thing to consider is the armor.  Since Rome, but most especially since the Mayan War, I've really bumped up the armor stats.  The Weapon Class that was a mainstay in the Mayan War had a 100mm belt.  The Lakes have a 125mm belt, capable of fending off their own guns at battle ranges.

An alternate concept.  Basically a Weapon-Class redone in 1928.  So 8 x 180s, some 100s to help with anti-DD work, an updated AA Battery, and a spotter aircraft.

Good well balanced ship but...

I think that Overall must be 1.00 because your frigate is over 8000t.

#68
After the minor fiasco that was the illegal design above.....

A reconfiguring.  Ran Parallel Ballistics, and 110mm of armor will fend off her own 180s starting at around 10000m, which is the inside point of optimal combat range of 10-18km.  So a slight thinning of armor is possible.  Then some careful hull configuring and dropping her speed by a half knot to an even 30kts....and we have the lightest version of the 12 x 180 gun Lake Class I can have without sacrificing actual combat power or versatility.

My thoughts are that the 240 cruiser is powerful, a definite cruiser killer in a daytime engagement.  However, the armor is only proof against 180mm guns at nighttime battle ranges, and then only at longer battle ranges.  The 180s also have double the effective rate of fire (comparing historical British 7.5in and 9.2in guns 3 and 6 RPM respectively).  Finally, while the 180 is an amazing DD killing weapon in a screen fight, the 240 is a bit too cumbersome to be truly effective against DDs.  So this cruiser has to be equipped with a more powerful anti-DD armament since the main battery can't pull double duty.

And finally, in all the furor over ships, it is put forward that if the Sultanate needs to shift to large fast battleships, why do half measures.  The Acapulco drydock has been expanded to 300m, so a series of single-ship classes can be built.  Rather than have a BB that's generally capable, this one would need to be a self-sufficient monster, capable of absorbing incredible punishment and dishing the same out.  There's no way the Sultanate can build more than one at a time and maintain its other production needs, so a shift away from battle-line tactics would also be required.....something that is a bit of a fight betwixt the hidebound battleship admirals and the newly promoted admirals who were junior officers during Ironclad Bay and remember how quickly the battleline was rendered impotent.  To them speed and individual ship capability is more important, able to operate in smaller and more flexible formations at higher speeds.

I wanted to get it around 45,000t.  But kept running into stability issues.  I just could not get the hullform right at that tonnage to get the 1.1 stability I want on a BB.  I'd have been satisfied with 1.04 on a BC.  Though ultimately the wide and shallow works better in the Caribbean, this BB is less likely to shoal than most capital ships half her size from nations that run deeper drafts.

It's an issue I've not paid as much attention to as perhaps I should.  I've got some pretty deep-draft critters in the water these days.

TacCovert4

It's just been how it's wound up working for me.  I can't say that I like it.  I probably need to run deeper draft.  But the shallower draft tends to be more stable for the tonnage.
