Looking good so far but Tac can ya add some ASW to the 1500 t ship?

The Rock Doctor

#16
Laksmanavati classes for 1908 are:

-Collier (mercantile build)
-Minesweeper
-Light cruiser
-Coastal defence ship

Depending on the numbers of the above, it is possible I may add in a few small things later.

The Rock Doctor

Note:  The collier is assumed to have had a 1913 refit (adding 25% oil-fired) and a 1927 refit (Add AA + 1918 FC)

The Rock Doctor

A large minesweeper/defensive minelayer.  Can double as a light coastal escort, though there is no ASW capability.

1913 and 1927 refits are assumed here as well.  The minelaying capability means this would be a warship for costing purposes.

I have a lot of hull strength and may increase the mine capacity and bunkerage.  Watch this space for future revisions.

The oldest of the Lak light cruisers, with the 1913 and 1927 refits.   Range reflects its pre-colonial build philosophy - this thing is for fighting around the sub-continent.  Nothing too fancy here, but decent minelaying capacity.

Looking good so far but Tac can ya add some ASW to the 1500 t ship?

It's got 4 sets of 1905 ASW kit.
His Most Honorable Majesty,  Ali the 8th, Sultan of All Aztecs,  Eagle of the Sun, Jaguar of the Sun, Snake of the Sun, Seal of the Sun, Whale of the Sun, Defender of the Faith, Keeper of the Teachings of Allah most gracious and merciful.

This class is the initial response to the Big Scramble for delicious colonial territories.  The navy needs a seagoing force capable of taking and holding colonies against various Indo-Pacific rivals, and these ships are the nucleus of one.  An oiler or two would've been nice but couldn't be squeezed in.

All units are built with oil-firing, direct-drive machinery (or should be).  Twin 18" torpedoes are available.  The 1927 FC/AA refit is incorporated and the AC will, as you'll see, also gain aircraft.

The big question for this class was whether to build a capital ship.  From an out-of-game perspective, the navy's limited to the 1891 capital ship architecture and all its limitations (notably an AQY main battery).  From an in-game perspective, the navy has to have something with big guns to fend off the Byzantines other powers eyeballing Australia.

They probably could develop a 310mm gun and field a semi-dreadnought, which would by necessity be heavily armored and kind of slow.  Or they could take the existing 260mm gun, update it as necessary, and field something with less armor but more speed.

From a trade-defence perspective, the latter seemed more logical; it could fight peer ACs and pre-dreadnoughts (if needed) and could, if REALLY NECESSARY, fight older-model armored cruisers from major powers.  So that's what they built.
