Needs more guns. Only 18 on 70k? Pathetic...

You can just sail it into Havana and park it there. Dare the Roman fleet to come get it.

The shielding is particularly excessive => 42%
I think the ship is not well balanced.
Arming - speed - protection.

With 70BP, I could build 2,3 or 4 BB with 30x360mm... & a better strategical & tactical use.

There is a bit of "could we" not "should we " at play.

Thanks to those scientists at Jurassic Park focusing on the "Could we", we have a whole franchise to enjoy.

Oh quite.  And yes, that last design was just ridiculous.  I mean a 12in upper belt?  That's basically protection against 340s at combat ranges for the entire hull.

Inspired by the Vilnius Union's various attempts to find the 'ideal' destroyer.  This is a potential, aka projected, early 1920s fleet destroyer, primarily for operations in the Caribbean.  Of note is that the number of gun mounts have been reduced from 5 on the D class to 4, eliminating the always iffy Q turret.  However, guns have increased from 5 to 8 through the use of the smaller twin 100mm gun instead of the single 130mm gun.  ASW 'for but not with' is the same in anticipation of ASW kit being properly available soon.  Also the torpedo armament has been increased from a pair of treble launchers to a pair of quad launchers, giving it a weighty 8 torpedo broadside.  Range has also increased.  Primarily the increases have come at the expense of the change to the guns, though 100mm is a fast loading round with plenty of range for most anticipated battle situations, and maybe it is getting the most hits in rather than the first big hits, that matters in the small craft engagement?

I confess to finding it interesting the gap between our 1920 designs and "Real World" designs interesting.
I wonder how much is how we SS DD's and how much hindsight effects our idea of what's needed.

Still, fun to see the designs.

Some is probably hindsight inspiring us.   For instance I should be building Clemson's.....but I just did a run of basically fletcher.

However,  I think that in game things, like subs being a slow burn, have affected the destroyers dynamic.  Nobody post ww1 would have looked at a destroyer without asw.  And the lack of a WNT is affecting the cruiser situation rather drastically.

In other ways it's driving innovation.   Who builds almost the penultimate example of the ww2 Era all round destroyer...and immediately goes about trying to improve on it....in 1920?

I think part may be the 'powers' didn't need to expand that much in the 20s.
Most had built plenty of Destroyers for WWI, and didn't need new ones.
Further, what they built was likely the near-minimum, as they wanted many.

Here, we don't have that constraint, so we're rushing towards large destroyers,
valuing the best individual unit within the tech constraints.

but are 2 x 1500 ton DDs "better" than 3x 1000 ton ?  or 4x 750t?

The Fubukis were groundbreaking designs... in 1926. Here I'm planning near equivalents in 1920, and they aren't groundbreaking merely state of the art.

I think a big reason is the rules between destroyers and cruisers mean a 1,500t destroyer is basically as good as a 3,000t cruiser, so you get a lot more bang for your buck. So we are replacing a lot of the historical PCs and LCs with big destroyers. Also destroyers here have proven to be devastatingly effective both against capital ships and in defending capital ships, while cruisers... not so much.

Note that Japan basically built a ton of ~750t destroyers going for quantity over quality, but is now switching to bigger 1,500t ones due to oceanic requirements.
