In fairness, I admit to designing 30 knot gunships with 2x1 or 2x2 400mm guns.

They would make for smaller but adequate Furious CV conversions at a later date.

Color me impressed :)
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

I am amused.  It could be rather annoying in certain functions.

Screw it, Atami is being built.

Something else Im kicking around. A big colonial gunboat to replace all the aging pre-dreads (8!) I have running around. Carries up to 4 small MTBs for colonial duties. Was hoping to get it under 10k so will probably revist it, maybe drop the speed down to 21kts.

The Rock Doctor

The MTBs feel out of place there.  Support them with a depot ship instead of using up the deck space here?

Range is high for a station ship, but there's no inherent penalty for having range, so okay.

Desertfox

Those are more to allow it to operate independently in undeveloped areas. If it shows up in a colonial port, a couple of MTBs can be used for patrol and policing duties and a couple of landing boats can be used to move to stuff back and forth to shore.

14in guns just seem so out of place.  I'd think that it would be 9-12in guns on a 'coastal monitor' that size.

Chop the 14in guns for something smaller, and throw the weight savings into bringing your secondary broadside up, as well as your AA suite and armor height.  The point of the main battery is just to make cruisers shy off....even with 14in guns a proper dreadnought or battlecruiser with 12in guns would pound this into scrap in short order.

I agree with Tac
Difficult to hit with 4 guns.
6 guns (12 ") would be more effective than 4 (14").

9000t with 6x12" => Excellent
IMO, increase to 10000t & 24kts.
