Do you have a twin 100mm mount? That might be a better call, and worst case would only delay the design by a year. Im not saying the 150mm wont work, but that I would not expect it to work as well. For comparison, I've only got 3x140 on the G-class, which is of comprible size. If you drop to 3x150 can you wring 31knts out of her?

And here I am trying to stuff 5x5" in 750 tons... I should see if I can squeeze in 6.

I dont have a twin 100mm mount.  And I have no way to start the gun until after this class would already be laid down.  To do that would slow work on two far more vital gun projects.

I'm lamely sticking with 4x1 100mm in my next iteration, so there.

With 1914 being a 'holiday' on the laying down of 'significant' warships due to the need to do dockyard expansion projects in certain areas, The Sultanate's Navy commissions for new designs for a Battlecruiser to be laid down in 1hy15.  Their specifications were for a ship no more than 24,000t (2,000t lighter than the Sultan Ali class currently in construction) with the fastest speed available.  Main Armament to be the same 4x2x280mm guns as found on the Sultan Ali class.  Armor protection is to be more dedicated against fighting heavy cruisers at long and medium ranges and light cruisers at medium ranges.

The class is supposed to address two things learned during the Naval Battle of San Diego.  Namely that 280mm gunfire is extremely efficient in taking apart armored cruisers, and Aztec Captains are reticent to retreat into their armored conning towers.  It was noted during the naval battle that both the Admiral and the Captain were on the single unprotected bridge deck of Acapulco that is outside the Conning Tower.  Both cited the less heated and cramped environment (the weather being tropical in most areas the Sultanate Navy operates), the increased visibility and ability to fight their ship, and that they felt it beneath them to cower behind an armored conning tower.  Thus the design study demanded both a main and backup command area onboard the ship, and to armor the bridges against splinters, thus giving command redundancy while acknowledging the likely actions of command officers in battle.

A nice hunter with, IMO, not enough prey to make it worthwhile. Outside of (maybe?) the Maya, most all of the major powers in the region have mimal older ACs that this would be really good at smacking around (Rome for example has 1). It's not really beefy enough to stand up to a proper capital ship or another AC killer, while the Sultan Ali is. On the other end of the spectrum, this is way overkill for gunning down protected cruisers, you could build proto-Pensacola at about 1/3 the cost and give yourself three ships and change.

Tough part for me comes down to available modern guns.  My options are 10cm, 15cm, 18cm, 28cm, and 36cm.  The 18 and 36cm guns will be coming out shortly.  And I might just go with my 18cm cruiser and skip any 'super cruisers'.

I definitely cannot afford repeats of the Sultan Ali class AND a modern 36cm armed BB. So it creates some interesting issues.  I might fiddle with the design a little more to either try to get it more economical or maybe try to refine the Sultan Ali design into something more functional for the role.

With her armor scheme, she'd actually hold up pretty well against other 'cruiser killers' up to 10in guns, that was built into the design.  Definitely not holding up against proper full 'battle' side BCs, but then this is a 'cruiser' side BC.  Although in a war her presence would probably mean that something like a JdA for instance is tied up for a while handling the situation.....

I did play around with a 22000t BC armed with 2 triple 36cm turrets.  Looked terrifying, but ultimately it's really a bigger gunned but otherwise less good Deutschland.

I don't have the right drydocks available yet for additional new BB production, so that's going to have to wait, plus it won't be until 1915 before my 36cm/45 triples are available, and I don't see a point in doing another 28cm BB class when it's pretty horrifically out of date compared to what's in production and heck what's in service.

My position can be described as 'interesting', with trans pacific colonies and my own Mediterranean type theater on top of that.  And the need to be able to have the deterrence of a Guerre de Main in one theater and a Guerre de Course in the other.

I might wind up spending a couple thousand more tons and seeing how much I can get for 24,000t.  Could wind up being a sort of proto-Scharnhorst
