Well...that pretty much is the Historical Japanese Fleet  (actaully looks better that the Russian Pacific Fleet in many respects).

Oh. My. God.  It's Satsuma!!

Note to those of you that don't know the Japanese Navy...they have cruisers that will outgun battleships...or at least have a gun that can engage a battleship before the cruiser dies a horrible flaming death from a full broadside.

Walter

According to that IJN site, the Tsukuba and Ibuki class started out as Class 1 Cruisers but were BCs as of 1912.
The 1903/1904 design I altered to fit into the line when it comes to main armament. Satsuma is planned designed as given here:

Well if anyone had doubts why the Mark needs a large fleet I think they are gone after seeing this force of ships.

Walter

There's a huge stretch of water between us, so why do you need a large fleet? :D
Oh wait. I have the Navy that historically beat the Russians badly at Tsushima. ;D

Desertfox

Looking at the historical Japanese Battleships and Armored Cruisers, the similarities between them and the NS ships is just scary...

A God King is a Posleen group leader, capable of new ideas and independant tought . A 6 limbed Saurian cannibalistic centaur.
I suggest reading the Aldenata series from John Ringo.  But don't go overboard with a SheVa.

I know the SheVa is nice (especially the emergency SheVa 9 refit) but would rather have a company of Tiger III's...  *hides the plans*

Nice idea with the Japanese Military Operations post

... I thought that something like that might be nice for OOC purposes as this might give everyone a better idea where the units are and which units are involved in the various Japanese operations. Also when the operation started, when it ended and what the result of the operation is.
While I haven't stated it, it should be noted that what is given there is what has been posted on the board so a few things that were recently sent to me with results have not yet been added to that list as it has not appeared on the board yet.
Information regarding Operation Viper and Operation Veroldendir (gamers here might recognize where that name came from... unless they do not play that kind of games) will only be released once the operation has started.

The new military operations reports are appreciated and interesting - especially that about Hainan, given how little has been heard of the ground campaign there.  Any sense of the casaulties to the ground forces there?

Walter

QuoteThe new military operations reports are appreciated and interesting - especially that about Hainan, given how little has been heard of the ground campaign there.
Because for Japan the Operation was completed, I asked Ithekro if it was okay to post the result as well as the details. It is only the report from the point that Japan got involved until the end and it is from a Japanese POV (sort of) as it clearly identifies the ground forces involved as Ryukyuan. Should the Hainan campaign be posted from the very beginning, it'll probably be from a 'neutral' or Swiss POV and the ground forces will be referred to as Japanese.
The slightly different POV is also obvious from the small prelude to Operation Tasmania. The one I posted it slightly different from the one that Desertfox posted (which is from a Swiss POV).

Except for the few unfortunate fellows that bit the dust as given in the report... no casualties on either side. ;D
(in other words, I do not know; Ithekro might have the answer to that)

Armies are not really my area of expertise.

However you had one Corps verses three divisions, plus several Chinese Corps from earlier.  The Swiss forces were whittled down to practically nothing during the campaign with maybe a Brigade surviving to escape capture or death.

Chinese losses would be higher due to the multpile assaults it took to get an invasion force on this island that could stay on the island.

The Japanese suffered less losses due to them arriving later, thus they mostly fought one Division of National Guard with the remains of the Regular Divisions late in the campaign.

Does 20% sound reasonable for losses to the Corps?

Walter

The Ryukyuans faced a mere National Guard Division, and from what I understood, they're spread out along the southern/southwestern end of the island to protect everything to the rear of the Swiss battleline so it is more likely that it is one Corps against spread out pieces of the National Guard Division moving in to hold the Ryukyuans back. I don't think it is likely all of them moved in as there is the big risk that the Chinese will break through. Later they took on what was left of the two Regular Divisions (after the Chinese gave them a good beating) together with the five Chinese corps.
... so I would think that the 20% is a lot, considering the 12:3 situation (6 Corps vs 1 1/2 corps) in favour for the MK/Japanese forces. The odds are 5:1 in favor of the Chinese and 2:1 in favor of the Ryukyuans, though the latter is only the case if the National Guard Division would have regrouped to take on the Ryukyuans as a whole unit.
... but that is how I look at it. I'm no real expert either.

Desertfox

But you where facing the best defensive army in the world, this is WWI period remeber, and Hainan is a better defensive terrain than Northern Europe. Take a look at the Battle of Io Jima to see what a well entrenched army can do.
