Osman I Class Battleship

These are the oldest battleships still active in the Ottoman inventory.  The lead four units were built in Germany; the latter two, with some difficulty, domestically.  Now rather emphatically obsolete, they serve as flagships and training vessels in the Empire's expanses.

Osman I, laid down 1888
Suleiman I, laid down 1889
Ertugrul, laid down 1889
Orhan, laid down 1890
Selim I, laid down 1890
Mehmed II, laid down 1891

Bayezid I Class Battleship

The last of the preceding Osman I class had barely been laid down when the decision was made to order even larger battleships similar to the German Brandenburg class.

The lead unit was laid down in Germany, the others domestically, albeit with a number of imported specialty items.

The Murad IV was destroyed by an internal explosion very shortly after entering service; an accumulation of coal dust is believed to have been the cause.  A German-built Brandenburg class ship was ordered as a replacement.

Bayezid I, laid down 1891
Murad IV, laid down 1892, lost 1894
Ahmed III, laid down 1893
Mustafa III, laid down 1894

Mahmud II Class Battleship

The Ottomans were determined to build their next class of battleship domestically, although specialty items such as heavy guns or machinery would still need to be imported.  For simplicity's sake, the preceding Bayezid I class was stretched to allow standardization of the main battery.

The near-simultaneous construction of these ships has imposed significant strain on the Ottoman naval budget.  Abdulaziz remains under construction as the sim begins.

Agir Dag Class Battleship

This is not quite a stretched version of the last ship, but it's close.  The main belt isn't 4.2 m the whole way, but more like 3.6 metres the whole way and then a full deck higher on the forward 25% (with the raised forecastle).

The 15cm are notionally concentrated at the end of the forecastle and then in a block forward of Y turret.  It would logically lead to turreted secondaries down the road, ala historical Italian practice.

The cost of the class has "broken" typical Ottoman capital ship planning, so the government will need to decide whether to build a third ship later or move to a two-ship division model.
