it makes even me slightly uncomfortable, however I belive it fairly accurately refelcts the attitudes of the period.  So please I ask dont get mad at me for being Racist and uncaring... Remember I am doing this In character, and that while this would get major coverage if a head of state wrote it today in 1900 it is likley that noone would even notice it.

First, it would be more effective to simply title your news post with an OOC : The following is meant to reflect views prevelant in the period, not the personal views of the author.

Second, I think the religeous overtones are more than are needed, unless they are a cloak.
Further, I think in light of Wilhelmina's real life 1901 speech on "ethical policy", a slightly different focus could be taken as "our duty to bring prosperity to the unfortunate" or something.

Last, if and when the Italians get in the colonial game, I'll be in the same boat.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

I was planing to use Wilhelmina's as more of the public face, likley released sometime in late 1900 (H2 at some period but im not to there yet in my news).  I am reading "Through the Dark Continent" atm more to get a feal for the Exploration/Colonization of Congo than anything and while looking for period letters I found this one and thought Heh I can see that.

Esentialy there will be 2 faces to my African efforts, the "public" face which will be more in line with Wilhemina's historic attitudes, and the attitude of "Business" which will be much Darker and more in keeping with the attitudes historicly displayed by Leopold.

The point of this thread was actualy just to give people a place to complain.

I'm okay with got posted; between snip's disclaimer at the top of the news forum and your own note, I think it's reasonable that any reader should understand you're presenting a (Historical) character's perspective and not your own.

On a related note, I have targets picked out for Africa, so I'm curious to see how we all bump into each other and what the final map looks like.

I havn't planed much past Congo honestly, but I am curious to see who grabs what in the NTL.

To a large extent I'm waiting on Logi's update of Africa that he said he'd work on, but I have some desired areas but need to know who owns what.  A big chunk of why I did a test budget through 1906 was to see if freeing up funds for development of an African effort was doable and what effect it would have on my economy. It's a little silly to invest in Africa when I have multiple regions with 0 IC, but it makes the game more interesting so I wanted to explore my options.

On the plus side, it looks like in the next 6 years Italian GDP will more than double and I'll actually be able to afford to use all my BP and not sell most.
