Still toying around with Armoured Frigates, since I wont be laying down a new one till 1904.  Opinions definetly welcome, it has grown to 13K tons and honestly I am not sure at this point if the increase in tonage is worth it.

 :-[ Cant belive I did that again (and I was wondering where all my reserve went).  Ok fixed it, still not sure it is worth the increase in tonage over the previous generation... all I am realy gaining is 11/45s over 11/40s and a half inch of deck armour, while I am giving up an inch of belt armour.  this makes it roughly equivilent to the OTL KE VIII, Braunschweig, and Deutschland classes in belt armour, however the 2.5 inch deck only puts it on par with the KE VIII while still being inferior to the other 2 (4.7 and 3.9 respectivly).  Now that I once again fixed it... Opinions comments concerns

While Spring Sharp does not show it, I am fairly sure that the 15 ft freeboard aft means that any of the guns in hull casemates that are aft of the break are actually "Limited use in all but light seas" instead of the reported "Limited use in heavy seas". About 16 feet is the minimum to get the "Limited use in heavy seas" for the hull casemates. It's something I noticed when I was playing with a cruiser design for China. If I put all the guns aft of the break I would get "Limited use in all but light seas" but when I used the distributed option, it gave me "Limited use in heavy seas" instead, even though I did not change the freeboard.

... and just to add some more useless freeboard information...

For the normal hull casemates, the minimum freeboard to get "Limited use in all but light seas" is 12 feet.
For the lower hull casemates, the minimum freeboard to get "Limited use in all but light seas" is 19 feet and the minimum freeboard to get "Limited use in heavy seas" is 23 feet.

Hull casemates would look better, but like I said, 15 feet would not be enough for the "Limited use in heavy seas" rating of the hull casemates. Below is your sim (or at least I tried. I have no idea why SS is stubbornly refusing to use the 40 lbs I entered and instead uses 39.99lbs. Also after closing SS, I noticed that I did not alter the trim) with all the hull casemates positioned aft of the break. You will see that it now has the "Limited use in all but light seas" rating...

A few other things I was wondering about the design:
- You have two entries for the 4" gun. One of 12 guns and one of 8 guns. The 12 gun one has 8 casemate mounts and 4 deck mounts, but to me it would make more sense if those 4 deck mounts would be listed under the with the other 8 deck guns so they would all be the same when it comes to the shield that protects them.
- Speaking of 'period thing', I would think that the period freeboard would be a lot flatter forward than what you have now. A max rise of maybe 1-2 feet.
- You sim the vessel with a ram bow, but the length overall suggests that it has no ram at all. While it has no effect on the sim, I think it looks a bit sloppy that way. :)

Guess I have missed those British road accidents cruisers. Man! They look pretty terrible to me.  ;D

Still, looking at them, I get the impression that some of the hull casemates would have the "Limited use in all but light seas" ratings (and the wiki entry for HMS Monmouth confirms that, indicating that the six lower 6" guns were "only usable in calm weather")

... so if you are looking at creating something like those British ACs, I guess you would need to keep those hull casemates below 16 feet in order to be more accurate. :)

Well, if you build them, you will need to post them eventually... and considering how my construction plans are, any ship I will build will be laid down after yours (if you stick to 1904) so I can still come up with evil ideas once you post your design...

My only reservation is that by 1904 somebody (maybe the US, maybe someone else) might have a 21knt BB or 23+knt AC under construction. With the limited industrial capacity, I might see how much more you have to tweek to get 21knts. The additional investment per unit might keep them viable longer.

Funny that you should ask, I have a 21 knot version that wouldnt look a bloody bit diferent than the curent version.  I would have to accept a 2 inch deck and 7" main belt however upper belt would improve to 5"

This being the 21 knot version, I also have a 23 knot version but that would entail importing turbines from someone as I lack the engine tech to build it.

Probably won't change terribly much.

Then there's squeezing 3 shafts into 6.86m with a very low block coefficient.  I'd be surprised if you can find a historical 1890-1920 example of a ship class with 3+ shafts on that beam, much less that tapered so much.  I doubt there's even a one-off, much less follow on vessels.

Hey I was not expecting that- good.

You'll want your 3" to be QF. I like more than 150 for that size/ROF gun.
Considering your deck is split 8ft / 15.5ft, the two beam 3" on "aft deck forward" can't actually fire forward. Which seems undesirable.
I suggest either superimpose them or make them Fore Deck Aft.
