The fire I'm starting to work on is a 430,000 acre Federal fire that has burned entirely across their forest and is about to hit the state responsibility area.
I think we're starting to build line for when it arrives in a couple days in "our" responsibility area.

Sounds like the 82,000 people of Medford Oregon are under evac orders.
They are cooking up in Washington and Oregon as well.

Had a fun thought and looked it up. What is the moisture content of Kiln dried wood vs. the Sierra conditions. ?

The fire they rescued folks with an Air Guard Chinnook and Blackhawk is a Fed Fire. The "Creek" fire.

The fuels report for the southern part is :
The fuels in the area consist of large expanses of beetle kill timber, 80-90 percent of the stand.  The fuel loading in the timber is estimated at 2,000 tons an acre.  Thousand hour fuels are at 6 percent moisture level. The fire area has the most significant bark beetle tree mortality in the state

Thousand hour fuels are the big logs. They will burn for ...1000 hours.

Kiln-dried wood normally has a six percent to eight percent moisture content in it.

In otherwords, hundreds of thousands of acres of timber, and a hundred million + dead trees are 'Kiln dry'.

That's the drought conditions we have.

We suffer every year from fires on the Mediterranean coasts.
I think they are less important than those in Californias.
Summer droughts greatly affect crop yields.
Voices are raised for the massive construction of water retention basins in the valleys to store winter rains and irrigate crops in summer.
These retention basins are also an interesting solution for fighting fires and intervening quickly before they become too large.

So, I've moved from my little 1100 acre fire to the 750,000 monster called the August Complex, with 100+miles of firefront  burning West out of the Mendocino National Forest.
There may be a little drizzle in the forecast, but it's the humidity that goes along which would be a help.

My expectation is I'll be on ~2 more weeks, and get off just in time for the HY2 Expansion at the beginning of October.

If there's any critical rulings which need making, you can
A)Wait ...sorry, I warned this winter when I took this up that there would be times I'd be unavailable in the fall.
