Exerps from the Baltic Newspaper for the first 6 months of the year 1906.

Jan 5th
In a quiet session, the governing body of the Baltic Confederation saw the reins of power be passed officially from Prime Minister Kassar to the new Prime Minister Jonas Silbertann.  While it was expected and all knew it was coming, it still was thought to be the end of an era.  The old general did his best to assure the government that he had helped build that it wasn't the end, it was merely time for him to step aside for others to finish his work.  The new Prime Minister sat back in his chair as his predessessor finished his address before adding in that this was a sign that the bad days of the previous several years has finally come to a close and that brighter days of a strong Baltic Confederation lay ahead.

January 25th
Today, with much great fanfare, the great shipyards at Hamburg saw the best and brightest of the government in attendence as the Keel was laid on the newest warship in the Confederate navy, the BCS Ultor.  The lead warship of her class, she and the cruiser BCS Vind represent a new dawn for the Baltic Confederation.

January 30th
The former Prime Minster today left his residences outside Karlstadt to make his way on buisness that he prefered not to speak about at the time.  Herr Kassar bowed his head politely to onlookers as he boarded the the train.

March 18th
The spring rains have brought with it not only warming temperatures but the army it seems.  In a move that would best be described as an exercise, units from I, IV, and VI armies drilled today outside Hamburg and are scheduled to be doing so for the next week.  Representatives from the army report that the operation, code named Thor I, was to test out new changes in leadership and to give the units better experience in large scale manuvers and their new standardized equipment.

June 19th
The 1st Battle Squadron of the navy set sail today from the port of Hamburg today on a cruise today scheduled to visit several locales in the Mediteranian.  In a change from the very isolationistic practices of the past, the cruise of the BCS Isbre and her consorts is hoped to both give exposer of the navy to their neighbors.  Scheduled stops in the cruise are hoped to be Malta, Pola, and culminating in a call to the port of Fiume for several days before returning.  This cruise will mark the first major excursion Confederate naval units in several years outside territorial waters for any length of time.  Admiral Asvaldr Randvaror with the technical advisor to Prime Minister Silbertann, Fräulein Rayner, in attendence will accompany the squadron for the cruise.

President Rey Alizandro sends his best wishes to Prime Minister Silbertann, and thanks Prime Minister Kassar for removing the taint of socialism from the Baltic Confederation and setting the nation on back on a course for peace and prosperity.

In a hand written letter sent back, penned in a very old style of caligraphy...

President Alizandro, thank you for your best wishes and we look forward to sharing and spreading the peace and prosperity you wished us.  As for the taint of socialism, we will do our best to make sure that it doesn't take root again.

So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;
We gives you your certificate, an' if you want it signed
We'll come an' 'ave a romp with you whenever you're inclined.

While the Kaiser is pleased to see the evil taint of Socialism defeated in the old country, Certain Outstanding Issues (*cough, cough*) remain which mean Brandenburg is still not on speaking terms with the Baltic Confederation...

The Republic of Orange welcomes the end of the of the brief socialist experiment. The People of the North apparently decided that working for individual prosperity is the future, not hiding behind slogans, false promises and expecing others to do the job.

Count von Bülow approaches the Kaiser. "Your Majesty, I have received a communication from the Baltics."

"Mmmph. What do those ungrateful revolutionaries want with us?"

"Essentially they are inquiring as to the possibility of, ah, 'burying the hatchet', as it were, and what might be necessary to do so."

"Hmm. That is surprising. I will need to think about this for awhile..."
