Hey,

Its been a while.  Just popped by and wanted to say hello all.  So what is going on with the forum?

Michael

Darman

Attempting to slowly reboot the game.  We're looking for new blood too so if you know anyone interested....

Jefgte

Welcome back Michael  ;)

We just restart "Conquest of Paradise" (Conquest of colonies) in 1870.

Play ?

Hey Jef,

I don't know about playing.  I said I would last game and never found the time.  Don't like doing things like that.  Will have to see.

We do have some "second-line" countries that could use a player, if you want something that needs less watching (at least until some dastardly expansionist tries to muscle into your turf, anyway).  :)

miketr

Not saying I am going to play.  Do you have a list of who is playing what and what is available (1st line or 2nd line?)

I will let Chalres know a new game is going to start maybe he is interested.

Understood, an expression of curiosity without commitment.

First-line
UK - Darman
US - Kworld
France - Jefgte
Italy - Walter
Ottomans - Guinness
Japan - Logi
Russia - Delta Force(?)
Prussia & North German League - Nobody(?)
Austria-Hungary - No player

Second-line
China
Brazil

[Note: notations of (?) denote players who've expressed interest, but have been very quiet.]

Two last questions.

#1) Is there a completed sample setup to look at?  I saw the spread sheet.

#2) What would the startup for say Brazil have?

Michael

KWorld

Re: #1 - I don't believe anyone has posted a completed startup.  We're still working through a few things at the moment (costs of commercial shipping fleets, costs to purchase additional IC and BP production capability during startup), so I'm not too surprised at this.

Re: #2 - Since this is NOT a historical world, and makes no pretenses thereof, Brazil's startup would be approximately 50-70% of a first-line country, subject to further discussion.

miketr

Thanks for the replies.

What if any limitations are you guys going to have on Declarations of War?  IE what is to prevent a player as their opening move attempting to take out their neighbors?  For example as Brazil what if I decided to build large army, coast defense naval force and rest in BP/IC and then attempted to take out Argentina?  Then Chile and then the rest?

Michael

Jefgte

The subject of the restart is "Conquest of Paradise"
(Colonial Conquest)
You could invade Argentina, but , I think that you "ll going to have some "visitors" (Iberian, French...) on Brasil coasts...You could sign treaties with those visitors or Repulse them...
Have a navy is important.

Hmmm
Not sure to invade Argentina, that could be a country for a new player (?)

The big powers COULD visit across the ocean and project their entire naval strength.  The problem is they could only project a small portion of their land strength.

I rather expect the early phases of the sim to resemble early turns of a Diplomacy game, where lots of folks try to grab things that aren't claimed by other people.  In the case of Brazil, it would be perfectly reasonable in the game to march upon your southern and western neighbors as soon as possible (though Chile might be difficult, because of the difficulty in accessing it).

miketr

OK if that is the way things are to go.  The first part of the game WILL be a rush then as people attempt to grab stuff.  Alright, pencil me in for Brazil then.  I will see if I can do a setup once someone completes one and I can look it over.

A last question, is the Imperial Diplomacy Map to be the official map for the game?  IE you guys are going to use those territory subdivisions?

Michael

The title of the scenario IS "The Conquest of Paradise", so a mad land grab seems appropriate.

As far as the map goes, I'm open to an alternative, but this one was a) available, b) easy to color, c) already broken down into regions of size relatively appropriate to the situation.  Should 2 (or more) troublemakers (ahem) powers make a grab for the same area, though, there is no reason that the area can't be divided amongst them and the map adjusted to account for this.
