Fat... yes.
That is the price to carry 4T1x164 on a small 3000t & 75m hull.
Advantage is the reasonable draught.

Historically, I don't believe turret on barbette mounts are available in 1885.  Am I wrong?

Jefgte

French did not go up turrets on barbette but on reinforced cylindrical axes.

I'll look in my documentation the exact date of this turret design.

However, the cruiser Dupuis de Lome used this type of axis turret in 1888 (T1x194 & T1x164).

Do you think that mounting central axis can be likened to mount barbette? or what kind os SS mount?

Note that was realy a turret with armor, not a rotating closed platform.

On the subject of turrets, what I've found suggests that the ss# "turret on barbette" mounting really isn't appropriate before about 1895, except in 1 case.  That case is the so-called "hooded barbette", which is, essentially, a barbette mounting with a splinter-proof gunshield or cover.  These were fairly common during the period, because they offered protection from the elements and from quick-firing guns, but were lighter than the Coles-Ericsson type turrets that preceded them.

So, I'd suggest that if you want to go with a hooded barbette, you can, but the armor thickness on the front and sides of the mounting should be no more than 1"/25.4mm or so.

Hmmmm.  In most of the scenarios we've been discussing, France won't start out with many (or in some cases, any) colonies.  Given that, it doesn't seem to make sense to me to start out with a bunch of ships optimized for colonial service.

Confirmation:
The Armored Cruiser Dupuy de Lome was the first ship built with armored turrets on reinforced axes, no barbettes.
T1x194 => armor 125mm
T1x164 => armor 100mm
LD in july 1888 at Brest

So, before 1888, I SS turrets with 25mm (0.99")

There's a couple errors here:

1 - You've got 2 twin 340mm mounts forward, but only 2 guns.

2 - You've got turret on barbette mounts, but the "other gunhouse" armor is too thick for a hooded barbette.  From the description here (http://www.cityofart.net/bship/brennus.html#specs), she doesn't really fit any of the SS3 mount options (the barbette's smaller than the "turret on barbette mount", but it's armored unlike the Coles/Ericsson turret, and the turret is well armored unlike a open barbette mount).

Brennus was LD in 1884, stopped in 1885 & restart in 1888 with modified plans.

The first design (1884) was 4x340 in barbettes

The 1888 redesign was with turrets 1T2 x340 + 1T1x340
