yeah im fairly sure its for torps/tubes, atleast some of it.  the rest like on several of my ships is just stuff (or a building reserve)

I'm thinking some of the miscellaneous weight on those DD's is for torpedo tubes and torpedoes?

I'd guess so, WAY more than is needed for period fish, though.

25 tons on a ship of this size is a lot, especially when we're limited to only a couple of short 45cm torpedoes.  Speed and range are lower than I'd expect in a TBD of this size, and I'd want a second 3" gun to better perform my main role: engaging torpedo boats.

snip

These two classes are basically heavier copies of the "30knt" destroyers, which were never really able to live up to there design speeds anyway. These, with the trial speed calculated via the rules on that, are actually very good approximations of the actual speeds these boats obtained. The ships also have a roughly historical armament (Chamois has 3lb guns where she should have 6lb but they would not quite fit) so I am not to concerned about that. For TBs and TBDs of this size, the RoF of a 3lb or 6lb gun plus the finisher of a 12lb gun (o god, Im starting to designate guns by lb rating) should be plenty. The next model might include an additional 12lb gun and be a tech-max design as far as displacement allows. That then will be basically the standard TBD until I can slap turbines on them and/or build 750t TBDs.

Admittedly, these are not very good designs, but they are good historical approximations of what was in service. For the duties they will need to undertake, the boats are workable and useful for now, and will be useful up until 750t boats and much faster 500t boats come into widespread service. By then I think they will be approaching the end of there service lives anyway, and I will not really be spending the tonnage to refit them and keep them around.

Well, as Delta pointed out, I had an error in the armor of the Cressy class cruisers. No 53" thick hoist armor is required. The fixed sim with the armor strenghtend elswere is presented below. If it is ok with the group, I would like to make this the offical sim. The light displacement is the same.

QuoteNo 53" thick hoist armor is required.
Yes, 53" is a bit extreme.  ;D
Since the light displacement is the same, it should be okay as the official sim.

BTW, out of curiosity, how much hull strength did the additional 50" eat up anyway?

... in which case I would have objected to the change since that was obviously the requirement of a very paranoid Admiral who wants to use that ship as a flagship and who wants plenty of protection.  ;D
