I was quite busy this past week working on papers. I might need a a day or two to get things wrapped up with the reports (having trouble with the coastal artillery part). I should be able to get all of the information on ports, ship positions, army status, and coastal artillery locations up later today though, as all I have to do is format them.

Well... I'm too tired to finish it now (I need to decide which support ships I build, and I have to find out which ships I can easily refit with radios) and I'm probably busy tomorrow. So I expect it will take 2 days longer.

And I haven't even written the stories I wanted to post...

Anyone else using 10" coastal guns and wouldn't mind me using their formulas? It appears Russia is the only one embracing the 10" from what I have seen.

KWorld

The US uses LOTS of 10" disappearing guns.  Take a look at the US spreadsheet, Coast Defenses page.

Happen to use any in casemates? That's how mine are outfitted, a good cross between turrets and disappearing guns for defense and cost.

KWorld

No, the US doesn't currently use any 10" casemates.  It wasn't until the aftermath of the Iberian-American war that the US decided it wanted more range from it's coast guns, and by then the 12"/40 was in development, so it's heavy casemate guns are going to be 12", at least for now.  It's certainly possible that the 10" disappearing guns will be remounted into casemates, but that decision hasn't yet been taken.

KWorld

However, if you want to use my spreadsheet as a basis, for 10" casemates you'd just replace the .1 cost I have in column J with a .19.  Everything else would then work fine.

I'm putting together my 1900 construction plan and I was wondering how the month vs. halves system is handled. Ships are constructed over months but the game and budgets are done biannually, so does it really make a difference if a ship takes 13 months to construct instead of 18 months? Can we actually do anything with the ship during the 5 months it is technically finished like shakedown cruises and training or is it locked up being constructed?

Darman

you add 3 months for working up then after 3 months its ready to join the fleet.  Your slipway/drydock needs a certain amount of time befope it is ready to accept a new hull.  You can actually lay down ships on odd months, its doesn't have to be in January or July.

Darman is correct, tho this is really not differentiated in the reports. Just make notes if you are using a slipway more then once turing a given turn.

We could actualy built 2 x 500t TB in a year (2HY reports - H1& H2) in the same slipway.

You can actually build 3 500 ton TBDs in the same slipway per year, and start a 4th, because little vessels like that only need 2.4 months of slipway time each.  After that, they're launched, the slip is readied for it's next job (takes 1 month), and then it completes another hull in 2.4 months (5.8 months total).  Another 1 month of prepping for the next TBD, and then it's started and launched in 2.4 moths (10.2 months total).  Another month prepping for the next TBD, and a fourth TBD is started in the same slip and will complete 1.6 months into the new year.
